Brown became an internet sensation for her character’s major quirk, which is, looking directly into the camera. The theater term for doing that is, breaking the fourth wall.

Millie Bobby Brown On Talking Directly To Her Mother

Brown, becoming a part of Sherlock Holmes’ world, or rather Holmes becoming a part of hers, had a big responsibility. Although Enola Holmes was introduced only in 2006 with the book – The Case of the Missing Marquess, she managed to take creative liberties with it by breaking the fourth wall.

“Actually it’s funny, no one ever has asked me that question, so you are a first,” she said to O’Connell. “Yeah, I always think about my mum, I always think about talking to my mum.”

According to a USA Today interview, Brown said during a Q&A that she came up with it while filming as she had a dream about being on the sets of Stranger Things, and now she’s “so obsessed with it.”

“Maybe Harry [Director] can agree with me on this but I think in every scene we tried doing, we tried breaking the fourth wall and then he edited the ones that landed the most. It’s just like the most perfect way to break the fourth wall with her wit, her humor, her timing.”
