After David Cornswet was announced as the one taking over the role of Superman in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, it was confirmed that Henry Cavill’s time as Superman was up. An X account (@blurayangel) suggested that the actor would be playing Doctor Doom in the upcoming The Fantastic Four which features Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. But another reliable X account (@MyTimeToShineH) claims that Henry Cavill was indeed offered a part in the MCU, but it was not Doctor Doom, and he has accepted the part which suggests that the audience soon heard the news of him joining the MCU.

A fan however commented under the tweet that they were simply making things up at this point, to which the X user replied,

“You will find that I’m not, sooner than you think.”

There has been no update on who is playing Doctor Doom in The Fantastic Four. Mads Mikkelsen was also rumored to be approached by the studios to portray the character on-screen but there has been no confirmation about it. Fans have however expressed that if this rumor is true, Henry Cavill as Doctor Doom would be one of the best casting choices by far.

According to Movie Web, the pressure upon the studios to cast Doctor Doom is high due to the character’s popularity and past film incarnations. Doom is one of the most famous supervillains in the comics but his live-action movies have failed to capture the essence of it. The studios will have to be very careful in casting the right actor to portray the villain on-screen. Fans noted that Cavill’s portrayal from being an iconic superhero to one of the most iconic villains would in itself be an iconic move if he ends up playing Doctor Doom.

Henry Cavill expresses a desire to portray Captain Britain in the MCU

According to reports from BNN Breaking, Cavill has expressed his desire to portray the role of Captain Britain in the MCU. He said,

“I’ve always been fascinated by the rich lore surrounding Captain Britain and the opportunity to bring him to the modern era is something I find incredibly exciting. Marvel has always done an incredible job at casting their heroes, I hope to meet their high standards.”

“I’m never going to say I want to play a Marvel character that is already being played by someone else because everyone’s doing such an amazing job. However I have the internet and I have seen the various rumors about Captain Britain and that would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that.”

The actor lastly added that there is something fun about the character and he does love being British. However, no confirmation regarding Henry Cavill’s casting in the MCU has been confirmed by the studios.

The Fantastic Four is scheduled for July 25, 2025 release.
