During an episode of Joe Rogan Experience, the host and guest Post Malone were discussing the best superhero entries. Both the host and the guest agreed on one thing: Wesley Snipes had one of the best superhero introductions in Blade.
“I think that is one of the greatest scenes in any movie. Tracy Lords is the one who takes him there,” Rogan said. In response, Post Malone goes on the say, “The first two Blade movies were the F*cking best sh*t ever. He cuts that guy’s hand off with his drawstring thing, oh man, that’s so cool man.”
But you will be surprised to know that Wesley Snipes wasn’t the first choice for the role. Upon presenting his concept for a Blade film to studio executives, David S. Goyer encountered an intriguing response. The discerning minds declared that the mantle of the titular character could only be borne by three actors: Denzel Washington, Laurence Fishburne, and Wesley Snipes. Right from inception, Goyer confidently asserted that Snipes embodied the flawless selection for the role, a conviction that resonated throughout the creative process.
David Fincher Was Supposed To Direct The First Blade Film
While initially attached to helm Blade, David Fincher’s direction took a different turn as he chose to prioritize his involvement in other ventures. With the director’s successful track record, including the acclaimed Se7en, his departure came despite his aptitude for crafting a dark and horror-infused Blade adaptation.
Roughly a year subsequent to Blade’s release, David Fincher’s interpretation of Chuck Palahniuk’s Fight Club graced the silver screen. This timeline suggests that Fincher might have departed from Blade to wholeheartedly embark on the endeavor of bringing Fight Club to life.
In the wake of the lukewarm response to Blade: Trinity, contemplation for a fourth installment of the Blade series was underway.
