Cavill plays Major Gus March-Phillips, the person that Ian Fleming based his iconic character James Bond on. Gus is a bit of an eccentric character with a lovely mustache who leads the band of renegades during Operation Postmaster. The purpose of this mission is to destroy the German boats, and the Italian ship, Duchessa, providing critical supplies to the German ships.

Cavill has been winning praise for his role, and even his colleagues are impressed with how he conducts himself on set. Ritchie is the latest person to heap praise on The Witcher actor. During an interview for the film, Ritchie was asked to describe the most gentlemanly thing about Cavill. The filmmaker’s answer was immediate.

“Henry Cavill stands up every time a lady walks into a room. And he’s been consistent with that all the way through two movies I’ve made with him. You’ve never failed to stand up when a lady walks into a room,” he said, addressing his lead actor.

Cavill truly is a gentleman, and his interactions with women prove it. However, it has also brought back his statements during the #MeToo movement, and the brickbats he had to face.

Henry Cavill came under fire for his comments during the #MeToo movement

The #MeToo movement was a social movement to shed light on the plight of women who suffered abuse at the hands of powerful men. The Justice League actor caused a bit of a furor with his comments in the wake of this movement.

During an interview with GQ Australia, the actor stated that he was hesitant to talk to women out of fear of being labeled a r*pist. His comments did not sit well with many, who felt they were totally uncalled for. In light of the criticism he faced, Cavill acknowledged his mistake and in a statement to the Press Association, he apologized for it too.

“Having seen the reaction to an article, in particular about my feelings on dating and the #MeToo movement, I just wanted to apologise for any confusion and misunderstanding that this may have created. Insensitivity was absolutely not my intention,” he said.

Cavill learned from his mistake, and he has shown it with his actions since then. He is a thorough gentleman, even if the character he plays in the film is far from it. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is out now.
