Since his actions garnered quite a public attention, movie creator/writer, Mark Miller was asked about his stance on Carrey’s actions in an interview with SlashFilm. The film writer has huge respect for Carrey as he shared that the ‘big movie star’ has an unpredictable nature, as “you never know what that guy is going to do or say.” He continued,

He is fantastic in the movie and I encourage everyone to see the movie and see how great he is in it and you know, decide for themselves.

The creator further praised the actor who “almost steals the movie” with his presence.

He added,

It’s the same whenever Jim Carrey is on as well. We were sitting in the edit suite looking at it after you had been shooting. Even the raw stuff looked incredible like ‘This guy is amazing,’ and weirdly I think he’s done us the most amazing favor. This is the thing nobody is saying, but..

Director Jeff Wadlow further commented on how the movie had “more exposure” after Carrey’s public withdrawal from supporting it. They appeared on the Good Morning America and BBC Breakfast Time in the Morning shows to discuss the movie.

While Carrey had great intentions to give his best to the movie, things happened during the production that heavily shook the actor to the core. Carrey had a change of heart when he confessed on Twitter (now X) about abandoning the movie.

In the tweet, he explained that he filmed the movie before the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting happened, which occurred in December 2012. In light of the tragedy, he could no longer support the level of violence, feeling that it was inappropriate.

Despite his opposition, the movie was released but garnered a mixed response from critics. As for the actor, he has since been selective in his projects and has refrained from appearing in any movies that promote violence.
