Lewis Hamilton Speaks About Brad Pitt’s Interest in Bike and Motor Sport
Among the most prominent of Hamilton’s current side projects is the major Hollywood film he’s producing, alongside Brad Pitt, and the team that made Top Gun: Maverick, including director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. It promises to be, at minimum, the most anticipated racing movie in history; at best, the most authentic, adrenaline-inducing racing movie ever.
Lewis Hamilton has signed on as a producer for an upcoming Formula One film starring Brad Pitt that will also be directed by Top Gun 2’s Joseph Kosinski. While talking about Pitt’s love for bikes, Hamilton, in a new interview with GQ, says:
“Brad is actually a racer at heart. He’s genuinely got the abilities, the skills.”
Speaking about Brad Pitt’s interest in bikes and his love for watching motor racing, Hamilton said:
“I think he’s always loved bikes. And so he’s watched a lot of motor racing. When I was younger, I worked at a driving school. To help pay my bills, just getting around to these races and stuff. Companies would come with 70 people. And they’re on the wrong side of the road—they’re on the inside line driving toward an apex of a turn. Just no knowledge. Brad knew what part of the track to be on.”
Brad Pitt and Lewis Hamilton‘s F1-inspired movie, rumored to be called Apex, seems to follow the story of a retired Formula One driver who has to come out of retirement to mentor and team a younger driver.
Lewis Hamilton Turned Down a Role as a Fighter Pilot in Top Gun: Maverick and He Regrets It
Formula One legend Lewis Hamilton recently disclosed that Tom Cruise approached him in 2018 to play a fighter pilot in the blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick. However, Hamilton had to pass on the coveted role because of his demanding F1 schedule.
He expressed regret after watching the movie, realizing he could have been there sharing the screen with the Hollywood icon.
“Firstly, I hadn’t even had, like, an acting lesson,” Hamilton said in the new profile for GQ magazine.
“And I don’t want to be the one that lets this movie down. And then secondly, I just really didn’t have the time to dedicate to it. I remember having to tell Joe and Tom – and it broke my heart. And then I regretted it, naturally, when they show me the movie and it’s: ‘It could’ve been me!’”
Hamilton won the 2018 World Championship and Top Gun: Maverick became a global phenomenon as the highest-grossing film of Tom Cruise’s career. The action blockbuster sequel earned over $1.4 billion at the box office. In that film, Cruise reprises his role as US Navy Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell from the 1986 original.
