The fans were left in shock as our OG Geralt of Rivia Henry Cavill passed the torch to fellow actor Liam Hemsworth for the upcoming seasons of The Witcher. Recently on October 29, our beloved Superman fame left a note on the Internet stating that he will leave the series following season 3. The whole fan base took no time to get divided over this. Now a statement by the Executive Producer of the show, Tomasz “Tomek” Bagiński adds more layers to the drama.

Henry Cavill’s departure from The Witcher has disappointed the fans of the show as well as the books of Andrzej Sapkowski and the CD Projekt Red games. The EP of the show defended this casting transition by comparing it to the everchanging James Bond and Batman.

Although people mainly attribute Henry Cavill’s career to his role as Superman in the world of DC, he was also an integral part of The Witcher. The actor is a die-hard fan of the games and the books of the monster slayer. According to many fans, the show owes a lot to Cavill who actively contributed to the show.

Recently, the showrunners were embroiled in a controversy where it was reported that the makers highly dislike the source materials of The Witcher. Following that, when the news of Henry Cavill’s exit came, some fans were certain that it was due to the makers hating the works of Andrej Sapkowski.

The Facebook post by Tomasz Bagiński

Now a Facebook post by the EP of the show has raised quite a buzz on the Internet. The Polish Illustrator Tomasz Bagiński took to his post to address the issue by comparing it to the several changes we spot with the characters of Batman and James Bond. His post is written in Polish and translated into English, it reads:

“I realize yesterday’s announcement shocked at least as much as Elon’s takeover of Twitter, but the world survived not such surprises. The Witcher can make it. The third season is very strong. There are only a few years until the fourth. Bond and Batman discover something new and interesting with each change of appearance. We have the time. Geralt is in the same league.”

Still, the fans aren’t convinced about Bagiński’s statement as the characters of Bond and Batman go through reboots and not a sudden transition from the middle of the lore. Additionally, with a mixed reception received by the second season of the series, the fans are unconvinced about its reception post-Cavill’s exit.

When the casting of Liam Hemsworth from season 4 was announced, the fans were mostly disappointed with only a certain number of fans defending him. Whereas a  clear reason for Cavill’s exit isn’t known, fans are mostly guessing that the Enola Holmes actor picked up the cape of the Kryptonian over the swords of the monster slayer.

As the Man of Steel actor is brought back to DCU in Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, it seems like he can’t commit to any other big-budget project right now. On the other hand, the creators’ disrespect for the source material also counts as a potential reason to the fans. The reception also points to a drastic drop in viewership if Liam Hemsworth fails to give the character any unique trait that can attract the audience.

All the seasons of The Witcher can be streamed on Netflix, whereas season 3 is set to stream sometime around mid-2023
