More than four years have passed since HBO’s Game of Thrones’ last episode was aired. However, during an exclusive interview with Vulture in 2019, Elizabeth Olsen shared that she went all out for the role of Daenerys Targaryen. During the chat, Olsen talks about how she auditioned for every role, and how she had also auditioned for the role of Khaleesi in HBO’s Game of Thrones. She adds, that she read the monologue of the character from the end of season 1 for the audition.

“When I first started working, I just auditioned for everything, because I like auditioning. And I auditioned for Khaleesi. I forgot that. It was the most awkward audition I’d ever had.”

“After she just burned. And she’s making this speech to thousands of people about how she’s their queen. They didn’t know if they wanted a British accent or not. So, you did it in both. It was terrible. Anytime someone says, ‘Bad audition story.’ That’s one I remember.”

Elizabeth Olsen has played a major role in the MCU with her role as Wanda Maximoff/ Scarlet Witch, but she thinks playing a character for a long time is not healthy for her career. “I’m trying to figure out… Because, specifically in the last four years, my output has been Marvel, I don’t want… it’s not that I don’t want to be associated as just this character. But I really feel like I need to be building other parts back up for balance. I so much want to do films right now. And I hope some of them come together in the way I feel like they can. But yeah, that’s something that I need. I just need other characters in my life. There’s no longevity in one character.”

Though MCU fans would be disappointed to hear the news, it is a wise career move, that would establish her as one of the best actresses in the history of cinema.
