Shia LaBeouf’s contribution to the big screen is nothing less than remarkable. Apart from being one of the most globally acclaimed stars of all time, the Transformers star is also quite vocal about his thoughts regarding, well, everything. He never holds grudges against anyone and lets them know if anyone does anything unappealing to him, be it even one of the most legendary directors of all time.

And that’s exactly what he did as he revealed in an interview how he was ‘disappointed’ after meeting the visionary Steven Spielberg in his $790 million movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, despite idolizing the legendary director for years.

This dates back to when Shia LaBeouf collaborated with the visionary Steven Spielberg for the critically mixed-reviews movie from the Indiana Jones franchise, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008). Since that was the first time he was going to meet his long-time idol, he was genuinely excited.

That was until everything unfolded on the sets of the $790 million movie that changed LaBeouf’s entire perspective on the director all at once. Recalling how he felt while meeting Spielberg for the first time many years after the movie, he said,

“You get there, and you realize you’re not meeting the Spielberg you dream of. You’re meeting a different Spielberg, who is in a different stage in his career. He’s less a director than he is a f***ing company.”

Continuing, he also talked about how he felt that the sets of the legendary filmmaker’s movies were more than enough to crumple the artistic ideas of anyone on sets.

“Spielberg’s sets are very different. Everything has been so meticulously planned. You got to get this line out in 37 seconds. You do that for five years, you start to feel like not knowing what you’re doing for a living.”

But despite his idolizing Steven Spielberg and even getting disappointed after meeting him and working with him, Shia LaBeouf went on to work on several more projects with the renowned director.

Being vocal about nearly everything, Shia LaBeouf didn’t step back from revealing how there was only one movie that he liked that he made with Steven Spielberg out of all the films they had worked on together. Talking about movies from the Transformers series, he said,

“I don’t like the movies that I made with Spielberg. The only movie that I liked that we made together was ‘Transformers’ one.”

On the whole, despite working together on numerous projects over the years, Shia LaBeouf could find only one movie worth naming that he actually liked and worked on with his longtime idol director, Steven Spielberg.

You can watch Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) on Hulu.
