The art of shooting a film goes as deep as the deepest parts of the ocean. Especially for the actor playing a role in the film, there is a lot of nuance and emotional complexities that come into play while depicting a certain character on-screen. Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the finest examples of just how hard being in that position can be when you are trying to give your best.

And while it may be tough on the actors themselves, sometimes, their loved ones are the people who feel the most for them when they see them on-screen in such an unfavorable state. One instance of this was the time when Maggie Gyllenhaal, the Southpaw star’s elder sister, couldn’t watch her brother go through physical abuse in one of his films.

There is a certain charm to the acting methods that Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal brings to his roles. From films like Everest, where he faced some of the harshest environmental conditions to Southpaw, where he had to go through an extreme physical change to portray a fighter, the star has a way of making it look easy. But when it comes to his loved ones, it seems they are more concerned about him than he is for himself, like the time when his sister and Hollywood star Maggie Gyllenhaal couldn’t watch her younger brother get beaten in Brokeback Mountain.

The 2005 superhit film was a story about the struggles of people from the LGBTQ community during a time when the topic was highly controversial to talk about. Thus, the film shed some light on two individuals who were portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal and the Late Heath Ledger. In the film, there comes a scene where the Spider-Man: Far From Home star was seen being assaulted by three men who repeatedly kick Gyllenhaal’s groin area. This would be hard to watch for anyone, but Maggie Gyllenhaal felt it much more as it was her own flesh and blood getting attacked.

During an interview, The Dark Knight star revealed the pain she endured watching her brother get assaulted, even if it was all for the shoot and not real. She said:

“I really lost it when they show him getting beaten up, He’s my brother so maybe I felt it even more acutely. I thought, ‘Why hurt him? What has he done?’”

This goes to show that the bond between siblings is so great that one can’t bear to see one of them get hurt, even when it’s just make-believe.
