Fight Club (1999) actor Brad Pitt couldn’t gush enough about one of his co-stars that he thought pushed his boundaries while performing for a scene like no other. But, who exactly did he talk about? Over his long film career, Pitt has worked with countless stars following his breakthrough appearance in Ridley Scott’s Thelma & Louise in 1991.
Four years later, for example, he was sharing the screen with the likes of Morgan Freeman in Se7en (1995). While Freeman did give unhinged performances in Street Smart (1987), Glory, and Lean on Me in 1989, by the time Se7en came out he’d become an actor who let others shine; it’s also the only film he made with Pitt.
After getting the much-needed boost with Se7en, Pitt would go on to give many hits. But, another star was rising the ranks alongside him and was building up a portfolio with big names like James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, and Martin Scorsese. He’s none other than the Titanic star Leonardo DiCaprio, who worked with Pitt in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2019.
Brad Pitt On Leonardo DiCaprio’s Unhinged Performance
Talking to InStyle, Brad Pitt claimed that DiCaprio could dial up his acting as much as he could and that he always pushed it to the edge. While it can’t be denied that the former did have a point as we’ve seen how DiCaprio loses himself in a role. It’s what got him an Oscar for The Revenant (2015).
The Titanic star, while filming for Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained alongside Jamie Foxx, injured his hand during a scene but didn’t break character, according to reports.
“He’s so committed,” Pitt told InStyle. “Like within a scene. You can play a scene at level one or 11, and he’s always pushing for the edge. He’s not protecting himself in any way.”
Not only that, but Pitt showed his support for DiCaprio while taking an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2020 by saying, “Leo, I’ll ride on your coattails any day, man. The view’s fantastic.”
Brad Pitt’s Experience Working With Leonardo DiCaprio
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood had both stars live out the bromance, both on and off camera. Revealing that he came across Leonardo DiCaprio many times before, they never quite hit it like they did for this film.
“We just, we have the same reference points,” he further said to InStyle. “I think we should do like a Buddy Holly and Jerry Lewis movie or something.”
DiCaprio is gearing up for the release of Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon in October while Pitt is busy filming Wolves, both for Apple TV+.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood can be streamed on Netflix.
