There’s no doubt that actor Ben Affleck pleasantly surprised the fans of the DC universe after donning the black bat suit. After playing Bruce Wayne in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice for the first time, he reprised his role in Justice League, and then again in Zack Snyder’s much darker version of the film. He is still to star in his own solo Batman movie.
With Ben Affleck reprising his role as Batman, it’s certainly exciting to think about where the character is headed next. Although Ben Affleck’s career as Batman has been loved by fans everywhere, he admitted that people weren’t exactly ecstatic to see him succeed Christian Bale as Batman at first.

People Didn’t Want Ben Affleck as Batman
When the news of Ben Affleck becoming the next Batman was made public, fans of the franchise didn’t seem so pleased. They believed that Affleck did not have the physicality that was needed to play The Caped Crusader. This worry especially came after Christian Bale had already set the bar in the sky. Acting alongside the method-acting connoisseur, Henry Cavill certainly didn’t help either, as he stated the comparison was intimidating.
“That was very daunting. I thought if I have to be as good a shape as this guy I think I’m in trouble.”
When the Good Will Hunting actor expressed his doubts about playing Batman, Zack Snyder assured him that he would be playing a more “broken, f**ked up Batman,” something which had not been done before. Affleck joked that when Snyder described his vision for the broken character to him, he resonated with Bruce Wayne and decided to go ahead with the role, after all.
“He was like, ‘this guy, he’s older, and he’s really f**ked up and he is broken down, and he’s on the edge of moral bankruptcy’. I thought I’m clearly your man.”
After three movies, a few cameos, and more being added to the list, it’s safe to say that Affleck knew how to make his way into the hearts of the superhero’s fans. Even though stepping into Christian Bale’s shoes was tough, the actor certainly did a great job bringing the character’s emotions to life.
Ben Affleck Proves People Wrong
After Affleck was doubted for his physicality, he stated that he spent a large amount of his time getting into shape for the role. He trained day and night with Magnus Lygdback to build a physique that people thought was the most comic-accurate body type for Batman.
“I worked out for almost a year before this movie started to get into becoming a superhero at my advanced age. It was a lot of protein and not a lot of carbs, but just eating like four to five times a day and lifting weights for a couple hours a day.”
The actor did a great job bringing Snyder’s more mature vision to life and the 71% Rotten Tomatoes ratings for Justice League are enough proof of that. Losing his trusted sidekick Robin and his parents, along with other dismays took a heavy toll on the superhero. Affleck perfectly embodied the character’s feelings. Snyder’s idea of bringing a “paradigm shift” for Batman was actively understood and acted upon by the actor.
