Chuck Lorre and Charlie Sheen’s recent collaboration on Bookie has reignited hopes for a potential reunion of Two and a Half Men. Taking on the role of Charlie Harper alongside Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones, the actor was at the height of his career during the show’s run.
However, his success was overshadowed by struggles with substance abuse, leading to several controversial remarks, including comments about Lorre. Consequently, Sheen was fired from the hit sitcom. Though he remained active for a while, he eventually took an extended hiatus.
With Sheen finally willing to return to the screen with his brief appearance in Bookie and his reconciliation with the showrunner, the odds of a reunion for the Emmy-winning sitcom seem more promising than ever.
Charlie Sheen is Thrilled About His Return to Acting
Charlie Sheen has spent the past six years away from the limelight, focusing on his sobriety and family. After his extended break, the actor decided to return to acting with the Max sports gambling dramedy Bookie.
Starring alongside Sebastian Maniscalco and Omar Dorsey, Sheen portrayed a fictional version of himself in the series, which also marked his reconciliation with the Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre.
“Chuck reached out, he said, ‘Hey, it’s time to bury the hatchet,” Sheen told People. And he was quick to grab the opportunity and is looking forward to more such opportunities in the future.
Chuck Lorre also reflected on reuniting with the actor, saying that he was enthusiastic about their approach to his character with a light-hearted and self-aware perspective.
He told the New York Post,
He was a really good sport about it — the way this stuff is written, we’re making fun of his persona and he absolutely understands his persona and he’s totally willing to make fun of himself.
Lorre and Sheen’s reconciliation with Bookie has now ignited another discussion regarding a potential reunion for the sitcom that ended almost a decade ago.
Chuck Lorre on a Potential Two and a Half Men Reunion
Not only Charlie Sheen, but Bookie also brings back Angus T. Jones, who played the role of Jake Harper in the Emmy-winning series. Following his exit from the sitcom in 2013, he has been away from acting.
Talking about Jones, Lorre said,
He was not necessarily going, ‘Oh boy. I’m going to act again! — But he was game and he was great. He was great at eight and he was great at 28.
With one original cast member, Jon Cryer, missing from the lineup, the showrunner also discussed the possibility of his return in a potential reunion for Two and a Half Men. Speaking to Variety, he said,
I don’t think so — It’s still to me more gratifying and fun to do new stuff. And to let the stuff we did in the past be the past.
Lorre expressed gratitude for moving beyond past issues and described his reunion with Sheen as warm and filled with appreciation, yet he remains uncertain about the prospect of a reunion for the series.
However, he also did not deny the possibility, as he said, “It’s foolish to say never.” Since he didn’t outright deny the possibility of a reunion, fans of the show can still hold onto hope for the leading trio to return in a Two and a Half Men reunion.
