The 27-year-old Hollywood star, who has recently been in the news for his romance with the American socialite Kylie Jenner, also has his fans awaiting his upcoming projects, including his return as Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Two and the founder of Wonka Chocolate Factory in the musical fantasy, Wonka.

While Paul King’s prequel has the actor’s fans intrigued in the movie, he almost lost the lead role to his fellow actor and friend, Tom Holland. The director and producer of the movie revealed the news in the latest issue of Total Film Magazine.

Timothée Chalamet Secured Lead Role in Wokna Over Tom Holland

Being among the most popular and talented stars of their generation, both Timothée Chalamet and Tom Holland have been up for the same roles multiple times. The Interstellar actor has talked about auditioning for the role of Marvel superhero Spider-Man, which later went to his Dune co-star, Zendaya’s partner.

While the Marvel star beat the Oscar nominee for the role of the web-swinging superhero, Chalamet has also won over a role from Holland. He is all set to return to the silver screen as Willy Wonka in the prequel to the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, which focuses on a young Willy Wonka’s journey.

However, as per the latest issue of Total Film Magazine, the Uncharted star was also considered for the lead role in the movie. Earlier reports have also shared that the studio wanted either Tom Holland or Timothée Chalamet to be cast as the lead in the musical fantasy. And it eventually went to the Dune star.

During his recent interview, producer David Heyman described why Chalamet is perfect for the role. “He’s a great actor, eminently likable, he has a twinkle in his eye, he’s very sensitive,” Heyman told Total Film Magazine as he described that he can handle every emotion and has an angelic voice. He also claimed that Wonka is a lot different from what the actor has done so far.

Timothée Chalamet And Tom Holland Are Close Friends

While the duo has not shared the screen so far, Timothée Chalamet and Tom Holland are pretty close and are good friends. Both of them have talked about the other on multiple occasions and have also tried or have been considered for the same role.

Chalamet recalled auditioning for the role of the MCU superhero at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards. “I read twice, and I left sweating in a total panic,” he said (via The Hollywood Reporter). Holland has also acknowledged that they are “very often part of the same conversation.”

He told The Hollywood Reporter, “I admire him. I really like him as a friend. And he’s a good ally to have in a business that’s pretty cutthroat.” Fans also enjoyed the wholesome interaction between the two when the English actor pranked call Chalamet during an appearance on BBC Radio 1. And there is no doubt that it would be a treat for their fans to see them together on the screen as well.

Wonka is set to release on December 15, 2023.
