Death Stranding 2, the sequel to the popular action-adventure title Death Stranding, is currently under development at Kojima Productions. As much as fans were expecting an update on the game at The Game Awards 2023, Hideo Kojima surprised everyone when he announced a new horror title instead.

This left fans wondering about the game and why anything wasn’t announced regarding it. Kojima has now provided fans with an update on the development of the game, along with updates on the newly announced game OD/OverDose and a few other things.

Death Stranding 2 was announced at The Game Awards 2022 with a reveal trailer, but details are still scarce on the game. Hideo Kojima has revealed that some of the original cast will be returning for the sequel, including Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, and Troy Baker. However, nothing official has been known for a long time about the development of the game or when it could be released.

He has now given an update on the AAA walking simulator title and a few other projects. He took to X/Twitter and revealed that 2024 is going to be the “Year of the Dragon,” adding that both Death Stranding 2 and OD will be developed simultaneously over the year. He also told the fans about other projects in the pipeline, including a new writing project and the Death Stranding film.

Hideo Kojima revealed that the DS sequel still has an ADR that needs to be finished, and recording for Japanese voiceovers will soon begin, which might only start after the ADR is finished or after the English voiceovers are done. For those unaware, ADR is ‘Automated Dialog Replacement,’ a post-production process where voice actors record lines to get them in sync with the lip movements of their characters or to improve the recorded audio.

He further added that he cannot do anything else like business trips as he has a lot to do, including shooting for OverDose, collaborating with the Avengers, the name he has given to the team that will be working on the game, and also working on the Death Stranding movie and other video projects. It is speculated that Kojima could be in the game, but it can be said for certain as of now.

As for the collaborators on the game, Oscar-winning writer-director Jordan Peele has only been confirmed. He has helmed several popular films, such as Get Out, Nope, and Us, but his role is not clear yet, or if he will be in the game himself or if he will just write or direct the game. Kojima had previously stated that he is gathering “seven samurai” to work on the game but has not named anyone yet.

The Death Stranding movie is currently in the works at A24, the production house behind Everything Everywhere All At Once and Hammerstone Productions. However, nothing more has been known about the movie so far. Hideo Kojima also revealed that he is planning to work on a new writing series and that the team at Kojima Productions is also planning to run a special program for “HideTube” and even revive “Hide Radio” sometime in the future.

Hideo Kojima did not give a release date for DS2, and what will it be called, as when the game was announced, DS2 was said to only have a “working title.” There are rumors that the Death Stranding sequel could release sometime in 2025, according to an artist’s ArtStation portfolio who appears to have worked on the game. However, as it is a rumor, it is advised to take this with a grain of salt. Judging from the post, it seems like this year is going to be a busy one for Kojima.
