Elden Ring has been hailed as one of the greatest Soulslike games of all time, but there’s a challenger lurking around in the form of Black Myth Wukong. The technology has advanced, and developers are ready to give the community something familiar and visually appealing.

The competition is fierce, and the gaming community is always on the lookout for something different. FromSoftware has perfected the Soulslike formula, and other developers took inspiration and added an original spin to stand out and be seen.

Black Myth Wukong Could Give Elden Ring a Run for Its Money

FromSoftware has pioneered the Soulslike genre, and each installment features some improvements from older games. Almost everyone in the gaming community shares the same opinion about Hidetaka Miyazaki’s latest, and Kai Cenat fell in love with what he calls a masterpiece despite the suffering he went through on his livestreams. Players believed the game revolutionized the genre, and that’s praise in the highest order.

It’s worth noting that the title by Game Science hasn’t yet been released, but the previews and gameplay footage were more than enough to win the fans over and dismiss the idea that any Soulslike game is on par with it. As controversial as it may seem, the visual fidelity and combat system look exceptional.

Opinions like these can strike a nerve with loyal fans, and it’s petty and pointless to compare two relatively different games. Not all games are meant to be carbon copies of each other, and if the similarities are too obvious, then you might as well play just one.

The Reign of Elden Ring May Be Coming to an End

The success of FromSoftware is difficult to replicate, and even Miyazaki admits that there’s no shame in taking inspiration from others. Miyazaki often looks at these projects for inspiration that he and his team will later apply to a future project.

Players will still find an excuse to boot up the game, especially with the imminent release of the only expansion later this June, and the developers promised that this DLC will be quite huge. Studios threw their hats in the ring of this genre, and there are a few out there that stood out; perhaps Game Science is ready to change that.

The Soulslike genre isn’t for the faint of heart, and the trailers for Black Myth Wukong embody that idea. Players will suffer and complain, but they’ll accept the challenge willingly, and this is the benefit of FromSoftware’s design, which is to teach them to never give up.

It’s not rare to see developers attempt to take on a popular genre, but any new idea is welcome. Fans will likely still play the game regardless of its nature, and the tension it provides is enough to quench their thirst for more.
