Elden Ring’s decision to create an open-world heightened players’ desire to immerse themselves in the game. That is one of the reasons why ER sold more than 20 million units. In previous interviews, Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and more, talked about ER’s open world.

After the release of the Dark Souls saga, everything changed for Miyazaki. Fans all over the world wanted more games with this kind of difficulty and world design. After Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, only one game was left to be released: Elden Ring, the definitive open-world Soulslike experience. This was probably one of the most anticipated games ever; just like GTA or Pokémon, FromSoftware has made some reputation over the years.

In previous interviews, Miyazaki talked about how the world of ER came to be.

Before the launch of ER, Hidetaka Miyazaki shared his vision for the game, describing it as a world reminiscent of other FromSoftware games, devoid of color and brimming with decay. This is a key feature in all the games made by the studio, and in a world that once was amazing, fallen kings and curses make it all dark and full of zombie-like characters. ER follows this patch, and of course, players love it.

They were very excited about walking through this land and discovering all the things that had been there before; this was almost a must-have that fans needed.

Miyazaki literally said the following: “Creating a more open game is a big challenge for us. If we were to add towns on top of that, it would become a bit too much, so we decided to create an open-world-style game focused on what we are best at.” So he clearly had a vision of how the world of Elden Ring would be, and he delivered on that.

At the moment, players are waiting for Shadow of the Erdtree. This content will be released on June 21 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. Players will need to get through significant parts of the base game to play the expansion.

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
