The Silent Hill 2 remake trailer may have had some questionable elements, but thanks to that, fans now have a satirical spin on the footage. Silent Hill 2 is an extremely iconic game that revolutionized the survival horror genre and has left its mark ever since its release, all the way back in 2001. When fans heard about the remake, expectations were very high. But there’s also a lot of concern about what might change in the process, as is the case sometimes with remakes.

The original game is being remade by Bloober Team, the studio behind Layers of Fear and The Medium, and is set to release sometime in 2024. A combat trailer for the remake was released on February 1, but a new satirical trailer might have stemmed from the official Silent Hill 2 remake trailer.

In a video shared by Dreamboum on X, the parody Silent Hill 2 remake trailer pokes fun at everything fans fear could go wrong with the Silent Hill 2 remake. The trailer includes everything wrong with modern gaming, with a heavy HUD and weird UI that shares way too much information and is all over the place.

The original Silent Hill 2 had minimal UI elements that made the game extremely immersive. It made sure never to share too much information with the player and let them explore at their own pace, led by curiosity. Combat was minimal and never the focus, and the player not being too powerful intensified the horror of the game and made it feel like survival first and foremost.

The trailer makes fun of modern game design choices, such as a task checklist, an eagle-eye-like mode that shows nearby enemies, map markers, checkpoint displays, and a lot more. Basically, everything that makes a game annoying and less fun to play.

This fake trailer is a great summary of all the changes and additions that fans definitely don’t want to see in the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake.

The remake features the returning talent of Akira Yamaoka, the original composer, and Masahiro Ito, who created monster designs for Silent Hill 2.

The announcement has been met with a mix of excitement and skepticism. Fans are eager to revisit Silent Hill 2 with a graphical upgrade but are also cautious about Bloober Team potentially altering the core elements that made the original a horror classic, as well as its track record of decent but not great games.

A controversial gameplay trailer also sparked concerns among fans. It focused heavily on combat mechanics, which themselves were rather clunky and unsatisfying, leading some to worry the remake might stray too far from the psychological horror focus of the original.

Bloober addressed the criticism, stating that the game’s far from complete. Hopefully, it’s taken the feedback seriously and will improve upon these aspects in time for the release.

Silent Hill 2 remake is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and PC, skipping Xbox. It’s set to be released this year.
