Taika Waititi found worldwide fame when he directed the iconic 2017 MCU movie Thor: Ragnarok. With a genuinely terrifying antagonist for the movie and Thor trying to find his way back to his home, fans loved the 2017 movie.

Taika Waititi Was The First Choice For James Gunn’s Replacement
Back in 2018, some horrific tweets on James Gunn’s Twitter feed were uncovered who had made jokes regarding pedophilia and r*pe. With the tweets getting viral, James Gunn was immediately fired from Disney, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was put on hold.
A year before, Taika Waititi had released the iconic 2017 movie Thor: Ragnarok which was a massive success. The film had received such a massive reception that it was still talked about a year after its release. People had taken to Twitter to claim that Taika Waititi would indeed be great for the role of the director instead of James Gunn.
There were alleged reports that Waititi was called to discuss his next film with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and fans hoped that it would be about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Well, James Gunn returned to the fold once again and gave his vision of the Guardians which fans loved once again. As for Taika Waititi, the director went on to direct Thor: Love and Thunder which was a massive failure.
How The Mighty Have Fallen
With Waititi directing the 2022 failure Thor: Love and Thunder, the world turned against the director in a matter of seconds. Although the director had found success with Jojo Rabbit, the 2022 MCU project turned the whole thing around. Fans took to Twitter to simply point out the quote that “How the mighty have fallen”.
Taika Waititi had the world in his hand after Thor: Ragnarok. I remember when James Gunn got fired from Vol. 3 and people automatically said Taika should’ve replaced him. His “downfall” needs to be studied

He’s a mid director. Jojo Rabbit was his best hit and it’s a solid 7. I think his new football movie is bad.

That Disney check made him grow lazy. Dude just decided to have fun and got a bit sloppy tbh.

It’s because he made 1 good plot and then he got an ego and decided to keep changing stuff. He said it himself “I wanted to give them a version of Thor they haven’t seen before” He absolutely did that. He gave us the worst possible version

Whatever the case may be, Thor: Love and Thunder received a rating of 6.2/10 on IMDB and 63% on Rotten Tomatoes but managed to earn a decent box office collection around the world. The 2022 Taika Waititi film is available to stream on Disney+.
