From the first look, Adam Sandler’s Spaceman takes on a serious tone that sets it apart from his other works for Netflix. Sandler’s character, Jakub, is on a solitary research mission somewhere on the edge of the solar system when he begins to realize that his marriage may be falling apart. To solve his troubles, Jakub seeks help from a mysterious creature Hanuš, voiced by Paul Dano of The Batman fame.

While Sandler has achieved huge successes with his recent Netflix productions, including the latest animated feature Leo, his acting skills shone brightest in A24’s 2019 crime thriller Uncut Gems. He won several accolades for the film but was notably snubbed at the Oscars. Fans on X are excited about Spaceman as they get to see Sandler continue to excel in dramatic roles. Sandler’s role as Howard Ratner was enough for one fan to look forward to his new film.

Fans dubbed his avatars in Spaceman and Uncut Gems as “Serious Adam Sandler”. Even in his recent comedy films, the Blended actor is hitting the right mark, prompting one fan to assume that Sandler’s career trajectory is looking good at this point. Fans also have high hopes for director Johan Renck, mentioning his incredible works, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and Chernobyl. Renck has also directed three episodes of Vikings.

The film was originally slated for a 2023 release, but the production was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes. Spaceman is now scheduled to be released on March 1, 2024.

Despite starring in films like Punch-Drunk Love and The Meyerowitz Stories, Adam Sandler was largely associated with his critically panned comedy roles. While critics hated these films, they continued to make money for the actor, leading him to pick them over the critically acclaimed ones. However, Uncut Gems showcased Sandler’s brilliant acting side as a gambling-addicted jeweler, leaving even critics astonished that it was the same actor from films like Jack and Jill.

Uncut Gems was A24’s highest-grossing film with $50 million until it was surpassed by Everything Everywhere All at Once. The film made so much of an impact that even Netflix trusted the 50 First Dates actor to allow him to produce projects like Spaceman, alongside his hit comedies such as the Murder Mystery series.
