Hogwarts Legacy has been one of the most successful games in 2023, and the title will soon arrive on Nintendo Switch consoles. Surprisingly, gameplay footage of the game showcases smooth and visually impressive gameplay, despite doubts and low expectations surrounding the game’s performance on the six-year-old console.

Initially, Hogwarts Legacy launched on the PlayStation 5, Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. After multiple delays, the game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch next week.

Given the numerous times the game has been delayed before officially launching on Switch, players were concerned it may have something to do with the game’s performance. After all, Hogwarts Legacy is a visually stunning game with a large world waiting to be explored.

However, a now-removed video of the gameplay that surfaced on the internet recently has cleared those doubts, and we can actually look forward to the game running superbly on the Switch.

While there was not much footage to look at, moving around in an open world without rendering issues, lags, or similar problems is a great sign. The framerate being capped at 30 is the least of our concerns here, given how ambitious the game is. The Nintendo Switch is primarily known for its games (including Nintendo exclusives) and not for its hardware capabilities.

Despite the console being 6 years old, the leaked footage proves that large and graphically demanding triple-A games like Hogwarts Legacy can still make the best of the Nintendo Switch and give players an enjoyable experience that’s not too different from current-gen consoles.

Hogwarts Legacy Is a Huge Game (Quite Literally)

Since its launch earlier this year, gamers have been freeing up a lot of space on their consoles or PCs to make room for the big game. That’s clearly not changing, keeping in mind that Hogwarts Legacy will also come with a mandatory day-one patch (around 8 GB in size) for the Nintendo Switch.

Gamers are expected to clear up quite some space in order to run the game on their Switch. With its default size plus the mandatory update, the console will need around 15 GB of free space to run Hogwarts Legacy without issues.

It’s a reasonable game file size, considering how immersive Hogwarts Legacy is. The open-world action RPG is set in the same magical world that introduced fans to the Harry Potter universe. However, it’s the first time that players get to experience a version of Hogwarts set in the 1800s. Players experience a deeply unique journey that takes them through a journey across an ancient secret that poses a danger to the world.

Since its launch, the game has been receiving numerous praises for its accuracy of the source material in the context of the magical realm brought to life by the Harry Potter books and movies. Hogwarts Legacy manages to introduce new characters while paying homage to those who have been loved by fans over the years. Moreover, an open-world approach adds depth to this experience, with a narrative that doesn’t take away from the 1800s setting.

The large world is open to new experiences and mysteries to be uncovered by players, while some of these sidequests and other tasks may become monotonous for a few players. It’s best to keep exploring in different ways to keep the playtime interesting.

Until we wait for an official gameplay video on the Switch, the limited footage that had surfaced did justice to all of this. There are a lot of intense parts to the gameplay, like combat and lighting, that might test the system’s capabilities even further, and only time will tell how the Switch intends to handle it seamlessly.
