So there was a full-on brain melting moment where one of the first scenes we shot is us getting out of the minivan and sort of lining up and it didn’t hit me until we’re all blocking the scene and I’m like, ‘Holy f—king s—t, there’s Wolverine right there! Oh my God! Deadpool, Blade, Elektra, X-23!’

Apart from Tatum, other cast members who made cameo appearances include Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Garner, and Dafne Keen. Superman actor Henry Cavill also notably joined the film in a separate scene. The Magic Mike star felt like he was “in a childhood cartoon that I’m watching or a comic that I’m reading and I literally couldn’t breathe.”

He also thought, “This is so wild. I’m playing the highest stakes make-believe game in my entire life,” and when the director would call in the cue and yell action, Tatum would think, “Oh man, I’ve been doing this voice in my head since I’ve been a child.”

Gambit was first played by Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine but was poorly received by fans. Soon after, Tatum worked on a plan to reboot the character for a solo movie, with the casting and preparation all done, but things got a little complicated after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019.

Speaking with Variety, Tatum expressed hope that his dream Gambit movie will still take flight. He rests his fate on the higher-ups’ endorsement.

I sure hope so… Of course, I’ve said it. I’ve been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God.

The Step Up star extends his utmost gratitude to Reynolds who fought for his Gambit to join Deadpool & Wolverine and praised Levy’s brilliant work on the film, which the actor called a masterpiece.

The third installment of the Deadpool franchise crossed the $1 billion mark, joining Todd PhillipsJoker (2019) in the pool of highest-grossing R-rated movies of all time.
