During the aforementioned match with Argentina, the athlete was seen hitting the turf hard because the opposing team’s mid-fielder Diego Simeone committed a foul. In a fit of rage, Beckham lashed out at him with a kick, which saw the collapse of the player on the field in a classic showy fashion. This led to Beckham receiving a red card for his actions and was made to sit out, which eventually cost England the World Cup. In a past interview with The Guardian, his wife and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham outlined what awful things people said to him, one of which was:

“Your wife’s a wh*re. Hope your kid dies of cancer”

This was the vile and uncivilized nature of the people when they were drowning in defeat and guilt, and they were quick to point fingers and slander Beckham, even going so far as burning an effigy of his near his birthplace.
