Hollywood’s greatest horror masterpieces range from the early 1973’s The Exorcist to films as recent as 2017’s IT. However, two horror franchises that have remained consistent throughout are Conjuring and Insidious. The blockbuster film series, although directed by the same filmmaker, James Wan, has individually ranked on the top lists of horror movies, per Rotten Tomatoes.
However, a recent viral video on social media is challenging the jump-scare potential of these franchise films. A short animated film, The Goat Monster VS Fat Werewolf created and shared by a popular YouTube channel is raising eyebrows with its grotesque and eerie themes.
Short horror film strives to match Patrick Wilson-led horror films
Months ago, the popular YouTube channel with 1.26 million subscribers, Shortest Blockbusters, dedicated to posting short films in the horror or fantasy genre, shared a compilation of all the episodes from their latest miniseries, The Goat Monster VS Fat Werewolf. The 5-minute compilation went viral on the platform, raking in 500k views. Therefore, the superior creativity of the film is getting comparisons with Patrick Wilson‘s Hollywood blockbusters: Conjuring and Insidious.
Apart from the impressively developed immersive animation, the compelling plotline of the short film also seemed engrossing. The first scene zoomed into a Goat Monster family, expecting a child when a thunderous growl of a mammoth spider followed.
With an equally impressive background score, the titular Fat Werewolf was shown moments later. There was also some fourth wall breaking around the end, in the middle of the Goat Monster and Fat Werewolf’s death chase, with an anticipated werewolf attack.
Honestly, a lot many jumpscares could be experienced with the high-quality animation. Oftentimes, the feature resembled that of an RPG game, with strange creatures popping up from nowhere. In all, it was evidently a great effort and probably Hollywood could take some inspiration. Not that the industry lacks in supreme horror films, but fans are always open to fresh ideas.

Simultaneously, netizens and fans flooded the comments section with encouraging remarks, calling for an inspired movie. Safe to say, fans were undivided on the Shortest Blockbuster production’s admiration and demanded more of it in the future. Here are some of the reactions:

The Conjuring franchise boasts of a billion-dollar success, spanning over eight films overall. It is also marked as the highest-grossing horror film series with $2.13 billion. Likewise, the Insidious franchise also has a record of $730 million at the global box office.
Nevertheless, if not speaking of massive budgets and even greater cash-ins, the ingenuity of the Shortest Blockbuster mini-series was dumbfounding, and Hollywood must keep an eye out for any collaborations with the talented creator in the future.
