31 Days of Horror: 5 Horror Film Victims Who Kinda Deserved It

Featured Video

When watching a horror film, we all expect scares, blood, guts and plenty of satisfying deaths. Most of the time we should be rooting for whomever to escape and survive, but there is the odd occasion where a particular victim has earned their death for whatever reason, and as such we not only don’t care, but even celebrate their demise in some cases.

31 Days of Horror brings us to the horror film victims who kind of deserved their fate, and whose deaths we celebrated…

Eric from The Evil Dead (2013)

A reboot of Sam Raimi’s original horror film had a lot to live up to, but thankfully with Raimi on board it took the premise and gave it a fresh spin and a new lick of paint. Following the same basic premise of the original, a group of friends go to a secluded cabin in the hope they can help their friend go cold turkey and kick their addiction to drugs.

A contentious addition to this list of horror film victims who deserved it is Eric, a stereotypical stoner who just so happens to be the level-headed intelligent member of the group, who in his exploration of the cabin happens upon a dank and disturbing basement, which contains the Necronomicon. A book made of literal flesh bound and hidden away should be enough of a warning for anyone to leave well enough alone. Not Eric though. Even the warning not to read the book stopped him reading it, and reading it aloud for that matter. Bringing upon the death of everyone kind of takes away any sympathy come his brutal and bloody death…

Captain Rhodes from Day of the Dead (1985)

One of the most-hated antagonists in zombie related media and is another example of a selfish and unstable character looking out for themselves. A year after the zombie outbreak  a group of survivors find themselves relatively safe from the marauding hordes above as they undergo their research in a silo beneath the surface.

Of course things go wrong and people get bitten, the zombies get in and chaos ensues. Surprisingly enough, the Captain ends up offing as many of his team inna variety of ways including shooting them, having them thrown to the zombies as a punishment and warning to others, as well as abandoning the men who helped his madness to ensure he survives.

His death was a welcome end to the character being ripped apart by zombies after being shot three times and saluted by one of his former subordinates, to the sadness and sympathy of absolutely no-one.

Beni from The Mummy (1999)

Horror film victims

A loose horror movie compared to others in this list, but Beni throughout The Mummy is self-centered, arrogant, selfish and willing to put everyone at risk for a bit of gold, so when he met his inevitable end as he was attempting to escape the rapidly closing rooms, absolutely everyone cheered. His death was grisley for sure, but it felt well earned after the events he’d put in motion.

Even with his death though, he got what he wanted as he died surrounded by gold, so that may have been one saving grace as he got his flesh eaten from his bones by the scarabs.

The Whole Family from Ready or Not (2019)

A family who spend the wedding night of any new addition to the family playing a game to appease a deal with an ancient diety sounds a terrible premise, but this film makes it work. As said several times throughout the film, some times they end up playing everyday board games, but occasionally they have to play hide and seek, where the family seeks the hidden victim, with the intent to kill them. All this without telling the person who’s hiding.

Watching Samara Weaving’s character fight back and kill members of the family as she tries to survive is a joy, and when it all comes to a head with a bloody and explosive climax, youll find yourself cheering as she lights up a cigarette waiting for the police to arrive.

Hoffman in Saw: The Final Chapter (2010)

Detective Hoffman spent the majority of his time in the Saw franchise as the apprentice and helper to John Kramer’s Jigsaw as well as a cop investigating the murders. Playing both sides allowed him a great deal of influence, albeit more for keeping Jigsaw out of the cop’s hands than anything else.

Throughout the films he transforms into his own even more warped version of Jigsaw, setting traps that can’t be beaten, straight out murdering cops and eventually going after Jill, Jigsaw’s wife, after she was tasked with testing Hoffman.

That’s why come the end of the seventh film when Hoffman looks to be making his escape after killing Jill, everyone was happy to see Dr. Lawrence Gordon returned sinced his first appearance in the original film, with two masked helpers in tow, as they attacked and drugged Hoffman, before leaving him to die in the same bathroom Gordon woke up in all those years ago.
