House of the Dragon stars Milly Alcock and Emily Carey finally made their exit on last week’s episode five, but there have been speculations that they might come back despite the recast. Both actors played a crucial part in the series, as Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, respectively, and have been praised for delivering a very compelling performance.

Although the prequel series is already moving forward with the older versions of these characters, there is still a possibility that young Rhaenyra and Alicent will appear on the screen. After the shocking events in Episode 5 at Rhaenyra and Laenor Velaryon’s wedding, the princess and the queen’s relationship has been severely ruptured following certain discoveries.

House Of The Dragon Deleted Scenes Used As Flashbacks

In the 10-year time jump that occurred, which now features Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke, many events have presumably taken place. Even though Alcock and Carey are no longer part of the series after the time jump, it does not mean they will never appear on screen again.

Deleted scenes of Alicent and King Viserys I Targaryen’s wedding have resurfaced, and some images showed Rhaenyra and Alicent in the midst of a quarrel. Other photos also showed them sharing tender moments of friendship as the princess help the queen prepare for the day of her wedding.

These omitted scenes could be used to project flashbacks and strengthen the narrative of a once-strong friendship torn apart by circumstances. As the story progresses and the rift between Rhaenyra and Alicent ensues, flashbacks of scenes from their younger days showing how close they used to be will help drive a more compelling and touching plot.

Why The Series Needs To Bring Young Rhaenyra And Alicent

Alcock has confirmed in an interview that there had been talks about bringing the younger versions into the show, although she is clueless as to how and when it will happen. While this remains to be a rumor, it leaves room for possibility. It is indeed a good decision if the showrunners decide to do so given how well-loved Alcock and Carey are by the fans.

It’s good to show bits and pieces of good old times to contrast the growing rivalry between Rhaenyra and Alicent. As the story progresses towards the foreboding Dance of the Dragons, both of them will do everything to fulfill their duties, even if it means breaking their friendship apart.

Aside from flashbacks, House of the Dragon can utilize several scenes from George R.R. Martin’s book, Fire & Blood, to incorporate into the story and backtrack all the moments Rhaenyra and Alicent shared in the past that weren’t included in the first five episodes.
