Spoiler Alert !!!
Spoilers for House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 5

The remnants of the previous episode, The Red Dragon and the Gold, are still felt in the latest installment of the House of the Dragon. Season 2 Episode 5 saw the consequences of the battle among the Targaryen kins – Rhaenys, Aegon, and Aemond – at Rook’s Rest.

With Rhaenys and Meleys gone forever, Aegon grappling with death on his bed like his dragon Sunfyre (who is left behind in the forest), and Aemond now the Prince Regent, the next sequences in the show will be much more nerve-wracking.

Meleys Scene In King’s Landing Mirrors Robb Stark’s Gruesome Death In Game Of Thrones

Episode 5 opens with the severed head of Meleys paraded in the streets of King’s Landing. The poor fly-ridden corpse of the dragon gets exhibited to the curiosity of the smallfolk people. As a knight shouts, “Behold! The traitor dragon, Meleys!” the crowd gathers as they gawk at the decapitated head of the once-powerful dragon.

For centuries, the dragons have been the symbol of the Targaryen dynasty. This act of humiliating a fallen dragon might have brought Team Green a little confidence on their side as a prize of war, but the smallfolk saw it as a bad omen.

One resident expressed dismay after believing dragons were gods as the carcass of the beast passed by. Hugh Hammer, played by Kieran Bew, whispers, “It’s just meat.” Now, the people of King’s Landing, or even Westeros, will now think that dragons are not invincible after all, that they are just as vulnerable as the rest of them.

This scene is reminiscent of that episode after the atrocious Red Wedding in Game of Thrones. As fans already know, Richard Madden’s Robb Stark was slaughtered along with his mother, Catelyn Stark, and his wife and their unborn child. His loyal companion, the direwolf Grey Wind, was decapitated and its head was sewn on Robb’s body before they made a procession.

This cruel act on the King in the North, and the pageantry of Meleys’ head, are not only abominable deeds of recklessness but also a severe blow to the houses they represent. Team Green will have to face the repercussions of their actions now that it has been established that dragons can also fall.

What To Expect In The Next Episode Of House Of The Dragon

The battle between the Greens and the Blacks will ensue in the next few episodes, and it’s going to be even more exciting after Episode 5 teased Queen Rhaenyra and Jacaerys’ hunt for the dragonseeds, or the bastards of the Targaryen bloodline. This will help secure her power and claim to the Iron Throne as she finds worthy dragonriders.

Aemond’s temporary ruling in King’s Landing is also highly anticipated as he finally quenches his thirst for the crown. As fans recall, he was the one responsible for Aegon’s fall. This revealed his true motives, just the same as Daemon’s haunted experiences at Harrenhal. The circumstances are revealing everyone’s dark secrets.
