Daemon Targaryen’s Visions Included Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones

In Episode 8, the Season 2 finale of House of the Dragon, after having a batch of worst nightmares within the crumbling walls of Harrenhal, Daemon Targaryen got one last vision that significantly changed the course of Game of Thrones.

The visuals occur to Daemon while visiting the Harrenhal Weirwood tree when he sees a montage of events including a blood-soaked battlefield, the three-eyed raven, Daenerys Targaryen, and Rhaenyra on the Iron Throne.

Although it seemed like a series of nonsensical mental pictures, Matt Smith‘s Daemon Targaryen looked mortified after seeing himself walk through a bloody battlefield, stepping into a puddle of blood, and stumbling across a body of water.

But the one imagery that caught audiences’ attention was the sight of Daenerys Targaryen with her baby dragons. While appearing as a premonition to Daemon, it was indeed a flashback for fans to Game of Thrones S1, where Daenerys survived the burning pyre.

The vision evidently appeared with a woman in a desert, holding three baby dragons, where the woman’s face is never shown. But undoubtedly, the sight held an uncanny resemblance to Daenerys surviving Khal Drogo’s funeral pyre in the Game of Thrones Season 1 finale, where all three of her dragon eggs are hatched.

Meanwhile, back in House of the Dragon, quickly after experiencing this vision, Daemon wakes with a change of heart after interpreting this prophecy and pledges his loyalty to Rhaenyra Targaryen after seeing her on the Iron Throne.

House of the Dragon Implied that Daenerys Targaryen is the Prince That Was Promised

While Matt Smith’s Daemon Targaryen interpreted Rhaenyra Targaryen as the hero, after his vision, did it truly mean that? Well, according to fans, although Daemon abandoned his own pursuit for the Iron Throne in support of his wife, House of the Dragon seemingly made a bold statement that Daenerys was perhaps The Prince That Was Promised in Game of Thrones

House of the Dragon had previously revealed the origin of Daenerys’ dragon eggs when Rhaenyra had sent them to the Vale with Rhaena for safekeeping. Since those dragon eggs were said to be the future of House Targaryen and they appeared in Daemon’s vision, it supposedly implied that Daenerys was indeed the future.

Moreover, the presence of both the White Walkers and Daenerys in the same vision, preceded by a red comet (which, in the book, is a sign of the Prince That Was Promised), seemingly confirmed Daenerys to be the Prince That Was Promised.

Following this vision, fans have been losing their minds and sharing their excitement on social media, for House of the Dragon finally answered the long-awaited mystery about the Prince That Was Promised prophecy. Although fans had previously expected Jon Snow to be the one, it seems Daenerys Targaryen was the one true Azor Ahai. This was corroborated by Aegon Targaryen’s dream, who claimed, “from my blood comes the prince that was promised, and his will be the song of ice and fire”.

Considering that Daenerys was from Rhaenyra’s line in the future, while being born (reborn as the Prince) amidst salt (sweat from walking into the funeral pyre) and smoke, beneath a bleeding star (red comet), it sealed the fact that Emilia Clarke‘s character from Game of Thrones is ultimately the Prince That Was Promised.

Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are both available on Max.
