Vin Diesel and The Fast and the Furious franchise is a relationship that keeps on giving. The star who also turned producer for the films is set to take over another weekend at the box office from May 19th with the staggering 10th installment of the series, Fast X. The film premiers at a time when Diesel has already announced an 11th film in the works for a 2025 release.
While the Guardians of the Galaxy star did not yet reveal details of new and recurring cast members, he addressed rumors regarding a Marvel superstar who was allegedly in the reckoning for a prominent role in the film.
Will Robert Downey Jr. Be Part Of Fast And Furious 11?
With the announcement that The Fast and the Furious franchise will continue to expand into an 11th film, actor Vin Diesel expressed his views on a Hollywood superstar’s involvement. Speaking at the Fast X trailer reveal in February, Diesel alluded to a character who would be his character Dom’s polar opposite.
“Without telling you too much about what happens in the future, there’s a character who is the antithesis of Dom who is promoting AI and driverless cars and a philosophy that with that goes your freedom.”
In an earlier interview with Variety, Diesel had gone on record to say that Marvel superstar Robert Downey Jr. would be his dream choice to cast for a role in Fast 11, though he hadn’t officially pitched the idea to the Iron Man actor yet. When he was asked if Downey Jr. had been subsequently contacted, Diesel was jokingly non-committal and said,
“How dare you ask me this question in front of all these people? I have pride and I have dignity.”
With the buzz already having been created around Robert Downey Jr.’s inclusion in the franchise, it now remains to be seen if Vin Diesel will follow through with his request and if the Avengers actor will accept it.
Is Fast X Part Of A Trilogy? Vin Diesel Explains
Leading up to the release of Fast X, Vin Diesel stated that the film will be part of a two-film finale with the 11th installment slated to release in 2025. But the actor speaking recently to Variety, seemingly dropped another bigger bombshell announcement about the films.
“Going into making this movie, the studio asked if this could be a two-parter. And after the studio saw this one, they said, ‘Could you make the finale, a trilogy?”
Diesel’s co-star and another franchise mainstay Michelle Rodriguez also seemed to confirm Diesel’s comment. When pressed further for details regarding the possibility of a trilogy, the action star took the cautious route and stepped down from making any more revelations about the films.
