Alan Wake 2, the highly-awaited sequel to Remedy’s popular psychological horror title Alan Wake, has finally launched after over a decade and has been praised for its impressive visuals, suspenseful storyline, and more by fans and critics alike.
Players who played the first game as well as new players looking for a unique and chilling experience will surely want to try the game and might wonder how long it takes to beat Alan Wake 2. Read on to find out Alan Wake 2‘s story length, how many hours are required for a completionist run, and the chapter list.
How Long to Beat Alan Wake 2?
Akan Wake 2 brings two protagonists, Alan Wake and an FBI agent named Saga Anderson, with each of their arcs. As Alan Wake encounters creepy and horrifying incidents in The Dark Place and looks to figure out a way to get out of there, Saga Anderson and her partner Alex Casey investigate these occurrences to get to know what is causing them.
Players focusing on the main objectives of the game can easily beat it in 18-20 hours, which is quite an improvement from the previous game, which took around 11-12 hours to complete. This aligns with the comments from developers at Remedy, as they stated that “Alan Wake 2 will be longer than Control,” which is their longest title to date.
Alan Wake’s arc in Alan Wake 2 is him looking for ways to get out of the creepy and horrifying The Dark Place, resembling a neo-noir New York City with crime detective themes, whereas Saga Anderson’s arc is set in Washington and features some locations from the last game, including Bright Falls and Cauldron Lake. Players will investigate, collect evidence, put together clues, and identify persons of interest as Saga.
The completionist run of Alan Wake 2 will take somewhere between 25 and 30 hours, as per the players’ playstyle. The game features several collectibles and puzzles, and the developers at Remedy have stated that they are important to the game’s narrative.
As per HowLongToBeat, players will need 28 hours for a 100% completion run and will discover and gather collectibles playing as Alan and Saga. This includes both characters’ main story missions and all collectibles in the game.
There are a total of 112 collectibles in the game and while some of them are integral to the story, others can be overlooked unless players are looking to find them all. Some collectibles in the game include Words of Power (Alan), Echoes (Alan), Nursery Rhymes/Dolls (Saga), Cult Stashes (Saga), Manuscript Pages (Saga), and many others.
While these collectibles are optional, players looking to platinum the game will have to get all the collectibles to get a Bronze trophy. The collectibles include a total of 22 Cult Stashes, 21 Lunch Boxes, 13 Nursery Rhyme Dolls, 17 Nursery Rhyme Puzzles, 18 Charms, 6 Koskela Brother Commercials, 8 Writer’s Journey Videos, and 7 Weapons.
There are several trophies available in the game associated with the collectibles. These are Secret Stashes, Hidden by the Trees, I’ll Find You, Strange Reality, Shift in Reality, Rustic Charm, The Koskela Brothers, The Trail of the Writer, and All Accounted For. The game also has individual trophies for players when they unlock weapons, and all of these trophies are necessary for players going for a completionist run.
There are a total of 19 chapters in Alan Wake 2 divided between Alan and Saga, and players can switch between both characters at times to experience other characters’ stories. These 19 chapters in Alan Wake 2 are divided into Return chapters and Initiation chapters. The game is going strong so far, and the developers have also promised to bring more content to the game soon.
