Sand Land was created by Akira Toriyama in the early 2000s. It is set in a completely different premise than his $23 Billion franchise’s plot, and is effectively a combination of Dune and Mad Max. The series is set on a deserted planet covered with sand and ferocious wild beasts. Even amidst such problematic terrain and natural obstacles, Demon Prince Beelzebub, Sheriff Rao, and Thief set out in search of a Legendary Lake to solve the water shortage problem.

“The outline I received was full of dramatic content and fast-paced developments from the start. I came up with the background information and design for a new character, Muniel, designed other characters like Ann, and also suggested various episodes and whatnot. And so this sequel was completed.”

Even though Sand Land is fairly new, fans have a lot of expectations from it. The Dragon Ball franchise has gained immortality.

Sand Land will be Toriyama’s last work apart from the esteemed anime franchise. It will be interesting to see whether the anime can create the same popularity as Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball. Beelzebub, Rao, and Thief have a massive task on their hands.
