The holidays are almost here, and while it’s the best time to start gaming with friends and family, the staff at Sony Interactive Company are having quite the nightmare with all the leaks. After Insomniac Games was hit badly with leaks that went deep enough to reveal future projects, the leaks from Sony’s camp seem to go even deeper, with leaked data revealing sales figures for PlayStation titles from years back to the latest titles.

Leaked data includes sales performance of PlayStation titles not just on the console but also from the PC port, taken from Steam sales figures. Some titles have shown surprising figures, but for the most part, the numbers are generally what one would expect.

Horizon Zero Dawn, which was released back in 2020, sold 3.3 million copies on Steam and was the highest-selling title compared to the titles that followed later. God of War was next with 2.5 million copies sold on Steam, and Days Gone took third with 1.7 million copies.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered sold 1.3 million copies but still did better than Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, both of which sold less than half a million copies. Finally, the least-sold PlayStation title on Steam was Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which sold close to 63,000 copies.

Sales Figures for FY2021 and FY2020 PlayStation Titles

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart sold a total of 2.34 million copies. MLB The Show 21 sold just over 1.6 million copies. 1.494 million copies of Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut was the next title over a million copies. Returnal sold around 866,000 copies, while Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection sold around 329,000 copies, and finally, Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding Director’s Cut sold around 210,000 copies.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales sold the most copies, having sold over 10.184 million copies. The Last of Us Part II sold 9.636 million copies, while Ghost of Tsushima sold around 7.436 million copies, and Demon’s Souls Remake was the next best-seller at 1.857 million copies. Sackboy: A Big Adventure was the last title to cross the million-copy mark, having sold 1.289 million copies. Predator: Hunting Grounds was also mentioned as having sold 778,000 copies.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released on October 20th and sold over 2.5 million on Day One, and over the next ten days, it sold over 5 million copies. The first title from the franchise, Marvel’s Spider-Man, sold 3.3 million copies on launch day, and that number extended to 20 million copies by November 18, 2020.

The game’s PS4 and PS5 editions combined sold over 33 million copies by May 15, 2022. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered for PC sold just over 1.5 million copies by March 31, 2022.

Horizon Zero Dawn

By the end of 2018, the PS4 edition had sold over 10 million copies. The PC port of the game sold over 2.4 million copies by the 31st of March, while the PC port and the PS4 edition sold a combined 24.3 million copies by the 16th of April this year. Horizon Forbidden West for PS4 and PS5 sold a combined 8.4 million copies, as recorded on the same date.

The Last of Us

This PS3 title sold 6 million copies during the first year since release and recorded a total of 8.4 million copies sold by May 21, 2019. The remastered edition for PS4 sold a total of 11.79 million copies by May 21st, 2019.

The combined sales figures for the PS3 and PS4 editions of the original and the remastered copies stood at 20 million copies by the same date. The Last of Us Part 2 for PS4 garnered a total of 10 million copies by June 9, 2022.

Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima for PS4 sold 2.4 million copies in the first two days after launch and went on to sell 6.5 million copies by March 22, 2021. The PS4 and PS5 copies of the game, including the DLC, sold over 9.73 million copies by July 3, 2022.

God of War

The combined sales figures for the PS4 and PS5 editions of God of War Ragnarok sold 5.1 million copies in the first two days since launch and then went on to sell over 15 million copies by the 19th of November this year.

The PS4 edition of God of War (2018) sold over 3.1 million copies in the first two days since launch and then went on to sell around 19.5 million copies by August 21, 2021. The PC port sold 970,000 copies by March 31st, and combined figures with the PS4 edition reached 23 million copies by September 30th last year.

God of War 3 sold 7.9 million copies by the 21st of March 2019, and the remastered version sold 5.5 million copies by the end of March 2019. God of War Ascension for PS3 sold 3 million copies, and the original God of War game sold over 4.6 million copies by May 30, 2012. The sequel, God of War 2, sold 4.2 copies at the same time. The God of War Collection for PS3 sold over 1.2 million copies at the same time.

Gran Turismo

Gran Turismo for PS1 sold 10.8m copies, while the sequel sold 9.3m copies. Gran Turismo 3 for PS2 sold 14.8 million copies, Gran Turismo 4 sold 11.7 million copies, Gran Turismo 5 sold 11.9 million copies, and then Gran Turismo 6 sold 5.2 million copies.

FY2020 Titles’ Sales Figures

Also posted on Reddit are the details of the FY2020 PlayStation titles and their numbers. The blockbuster title by Hideo Kojima, Death Stranding, sold 4.1 million copies. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End sold 18.616 million copies, Bloodborne sold 7.464 million copies, Detroit Become Human sold 5.4 million copies, and LittleBigPlanet 3 sold 5.391 million copies.

The other titles include Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which is said to have sold 5.2 million copies; InFamous: Second Son, which sold 5 million copies; Driveclub, which sold 4.764 million copies; and finally, Until Dawn, which sold 3.9 million copies.

Revenue Brought in by Titles

The revenue generated and the number of copies sold for a wealth of titles have also been leaked in a highly detailed manner.

The top three titles revealed in the data include Spider-Man, which raked in a total of $222 million while the PS4 edition of God of War brought in $172 million, and Horizon Zero Dawn brought in $130 million. Uncharted 4 made $77 million, the PS4 edition of The Last of Us made $75 million, and Days Gone (PS4) brought in $68 million. Bloodborne brought in $64 million, Detroit Become Human brought in $51 million, and Death Stranding brought in $50 million.

As for the VR titles, the most successful title listed was VR Worlds, which sold a total of 409k copies and made $8.9m. ASTRO BOT Rescue Mission (VR) made $5.5m, Rush of Blood (VR) made $4.4m, and DRIVECLUB (VR) made $4m. Among the titles that have brought in less than $500,000, the list includes LocoRoco 2 Remastered, which has brought in $460k; Hustle Kings (PS4), which made $403k; and Jak X: Combat Racing (PS2), which brought in $400k, among many other titles.

Fans have been on Reddit, commenting just how bad they feel about the massive leak while also being surprised about the number of copies sold and the revenue. Insomniac Games was also hit with a massive leak that revealed the titles to come out of the studio over the next 10 years. Sony will no doubt be trying to ensure a similar leak doesn’t happen again, but for now, the damage has been quite severe.
