James Corden reveals that he auditioned to play the role of Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings film series by Peter Jackson. Although Corden did not get the role, he talked about the experience on a podcast.

The Late Late Show host explained that he had qualified for the second round and the two friends he went with for the audition also recalled, “Two of my other friends went in, And then we all got called back the next day, and then we got called back the next day, and then none of us got called back after that.

James Corden’s Role in the LOTR

James Corden says that the actor landing the role of Samwise was none other than Oscar nominee Sean Astin, he admits that he did “very much enjoy” trying for a role in the film adaptation of a book series by J.R.R. Tolkien.

James Corden said he will be bowing out of his late-night CBS TV show next year, calling it a “good time to move on and see what else might be out there.“. Corden announced his decision during the taping of The Late Late Show, which he began hosting in 2015.

Samwise was the youngest son of Hamfest and Bell Gamgee and was Frodo Baggins’s best friend and gardener from Shire. Though he was a gardener by trade, his love for elves, his gift for poetry, and his beliefs that the world contained greater wonders were the reason that most of the hobbits were aware of him and sidelined Gamgee.

Samwise Gamgee  proved himself as Frodo’s closest friend and being the most dependable companion while playing a crucial role protecting Baggin’s to their journey to Mount Doom and destroying the One Ring in the dragon-fire.

Later in the movie Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Samwise Gamgee carried Frodo Baggins on his back to the top of the mountain where the ring wasa finally destroyed and the forces of Sauron lose heart as the enemy collapses.

The Lord of the Rings fil series had a great impact on the people as they were hit with both good critics and at the box office. They recieved a collected a total of 17 Academy Awards and a grossing near 3 billion dollars. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power — an epic prequel series developed for Prime Video by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, finished its first season on october and simultaneously started its shoot for the second.

The Lord of the Rings is available for streaming on HBO Max.
