On June 13, The Flash made its theatrical debut following a conflicting flurry of both positive and bad news. When it was announced that Michael Keaton was in talks to return to his role as Batman for the first time in more than 30 years in 2020, fans started to become enthusiastic about the movie. When it was confirmed that Sasha Calle will make her DC Universe debut as Supergirl and that Michael Shannon’s General Zod would also be making a comeback, the enthusiasm only increased.
With Michael Keaton’s 1989 Batman on the poster and Ben Affleck’s final DCEU outing as the Caped Crusader, viewers were pretty pumped for the film. Some viewers were even excited to see if Christian Bale would be sharing the screen with the other DC characters or not. However, since the movie has not been doing that great at the Box Office, fans are relieved that Bale had earlier passed on the film.
Christian Bale would only return to Batman if Christopher Nolan asked
Before he joined the MCU, Christian Bale had already built a name for himself as Bruce Wayne/Batman in The Dark Knight trilogy of comic book movies. The middle film in the critically acclaimed series, The Dark Knight, came out in the same year as Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau’s Iron Man, which launched Marvel Studios. The critically acclaimed series was released from 2005 to 2012. Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson have portrayed the Caped Crusader after Bale’s time as the character came to an end, but Bale’s portrayal continues to be a fan favorite.
During a press junket for Thor: Love and Thunder, Bale granted Screen Rant an exclusive interview in which he stated that nobody has, in his opinion, suggested that he reprise his DC character. The only reason he would return to Batman is if Nolan asked him to, even if there were to be offers on the table.
Fans respect Christian Bale’s decision to back out from The Flash
Ever since The Flash started receiving backlash from the audiences, fans have started respecting Christian Bale’s decision to not get involved in the latest installment of The Flash. Another justification for the absence of Christian Bale’s Caped Crusader from The Flash is that Dark Knight trilogy featured possibly the most realistic and authentic Batman universe to date. In Ezra Miller’s multidimensional and time-traveling The Flash, it would not be able to fit into the narrative.
