Hugh Jackman has been known around the world for portraying various iconic characters throughout his career in Hollywood. One of the most memorable roles that he has ever done is that of Logan aka Wolverine.
Getting caught by airport authorities for traveling without a visa, the actor revealed in an interview that he was met by a mean Canadian. Turns out, the officers were all fans of the original X-Men comics and released Hugh Jackman when he told them that he was going to play Wolverine in the then-upcoming live-action movie!
When Hugh Jackman Got A Police Escort!
Jackman first appeared as the character of Wolverine in the 2000 film, X-Men. Before Wolverine, the actor did not have worldwide fame. Traveling on his way to Canada, the actor was detained at the airport for traveling without a visa and he was taken to one of those custody rooms!
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actor revealed that after sitting in the room, Hugh Jackman pleaded guilty to securing the part of Wolverine to the officer. Turns out, the authorities were big fans of the original X-Men comics and that was the only reason they let Hugh Jackman go!
“I said, ‘Listen, I’m sorry. It’s just — I’ve got this part in this thing, and they haven’t got my visa.’ And he [officer] goes, ‘What’s the thing?’ And I said, ‘Well, it’s ‘X-Men.’ It’s like a comic book.’ He goes, ‘What? Well, you mean like the animation thing, ‘X-Men’?” And I goes, ‘Well, no, they’re doing a live-action version of it.’
The actor further continued,
“He goes, ‘Well, what did you audition for?’ And I said, ‘It’s a character called Wolverine.’ He goes, ‘What?!’ And he literally looked at me, and then he just — to all his mates, he goes, ‘Hey, Jimmy, it’s Wolverine! This is Wolverine!’ Honestly, I went out there with a police escort, just to let me out.”
Jackman ended his statement by saying that the officer made him sign autographs and let him out due to which, he was finally able to portray the role of Wolverine after all.
Hugh Jackman Was A Clown Before He Was Wolverine
Before he switched to acting as a full-time profession, Hugh Jackman had to make ends meet. Revealing the details of his life, the actor admitted to Howard Stern on The Howard Stern Show that he was known as Coco the Clown and he was the best at what he did.
“I was the best. You could climb on my head, I could juggle three things. I could juggle kind of anything, like swords,” he said. “Anything for 3, but nothing more. No balloon animals. No magic tricks.”
Finding roles in films, the actor had his big breakthrough by portraying the role of Wolverine in X-Men in 2000. Hugh Jackman is all set to reprise his role as Wolverine once again when Deadpool 3 releases on 3rd May 2024 across the U.S.
