Kevin Feige and Hugh Jackman go way back as they began their journey in Marvel with Bryan Singer’s X-Men. While Feige began his career as an associate producer on the film, Jackman was cast as Wolverine, thus beginning a long tenure of playing the superhero.

While both characters were part of Fox Studio’s X-Men franchise, Disney’s acquisition of the studio allowed them to carry over to the MCU. However, it is still not clear whether the A-listers will be back for another film in the future. Kevin Feige said to Collider,

It’s definitely, ‘Let’s get through this.’ But as we sit here talking, and the movie comes out in a week, and the movie’s been finished for a couple of weeks, there’s certainly been a lot of discussions of, ‘That was fun. What should we do next?’

Feige also mentioned that their current plans for the MCU include exploring the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters, which might give an opportunity for both the stars to return.

Deadpool & Wolverine is not the first time the two characters have faced each other on film but it is definitely better than the first time they did. Ryan Reynolds played Wade Wilson a.k.a Weapon X in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which saw a bizarre version of Deadpool. Unhappy with the version, Reynolds developed the Deadpool fans love today.

As a producer and writer, Reynolds reportedly pitched multiple ideas for Deadpool 3 to Marvel before a message from Hugh Jackman about wanting to play Wolverine again got it made. However, the actor reportedly was not too sure about his future as the character. He spoke about his kids asking him when he would stop ‘Deadpooling’, to which he said soon.

The actor also mentioned how he could envision all the possibilities for the character, including Deadpool & Wolverine being the last appearance. He said to Variety,

I don’t know. I could see any version of it. I can imagine a solo movie, being part of an ensemble. I can imagine that this is also the last time. I never feel anything other than that.

With the film set to be the most-anticipated film of the year, the box office collections might determine whether the two heroes have a future in the MCU.

Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in cinemas on July 26.
