Mark Ruffalo recently appeared on the Smartless Podcast to talk about his recent Oscar-nominated film Poor Things. He also reflected on his career and various milestones in his life. Ruffalo revealed that he was hesitant to tell his wife Sunrise Coigney about the tumor as she was heavily pregnant with their daughter Keen at the time. However, when he finally told her about it, she burst into tears and surprised him by stating that she always knew that he was gonna die young. He said,

“Sunrise was, like, nine and a half months pregnant, and the baby was imminently coming. I had one of those 4 am calls, and I woke up probably around 3 am, and I just had this crazy dream. It wasn’t like any other dream I’d ever had. It was just like, ‘You have a brain tumor…[The doctor] comes in, and she kind of looks like a zombie.

You have a mass behind your left ear the size of a golf ball. We don’t know what it is, we can’t tell until it’s biopsied. When I told Sunny about it, first she thought I was joking,” he explained. “And then she just burst into tears and said, ‘I always knew you were gonna die young!’”

He further stated that while the tumor was treated, he was left with one completely deaf ear and had various side effects due to the surgery. However, he is happy that he did the surgery as gave him new hope and joy to continue his wonderful life with his family.
