It’s been more than a few decades since Arnold Schwarzenegger won his last Mr. Olympia title in 1980. But surprisingly, the actor managed to keep his physique intact. Molding himself into one of the greatest bodybuilders, Schwarzenegger mentioned how everything he did revolved around training.
During a discussion shared on his YouTube channel, Arnold Schwarzenegger broke down his brutal training method. Speaking about fitness and bodybuilding, the actor disclosed one thing that he refrained during training which ended up being a brutal but smart strategy.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Disclosed His High-Volume Training
Before migrating from Austria to America, Arnold Schwarzenegger earned his initial fame through fitness and bodybuilding. Appearing as a professional bodybuilder, Schwarzenegger even won seven Mr. Olympia titles. But while his success seems enviable, the journey was more difficult than ever.
Dedicating himself completely to bodybuilding, Arnold Schwarzenegger mentioned training twice a day with his closest friends. Making his workout sessions last for hours and engaging in an endless number of exercises and sets, Schwarzenegger became the epitome of high-volume training.
But unfortunately, while the 76-year-old actor’s method helped him in his journey of bodybuilding, most training experts today criticize his method and call it madness. Not allowing adequate muscle recovery, experts have claimed that his process of high-volume training might be damaging.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Avoided One Thing While Bodybuilding
Nonetheless, during a discussion shared via his YouTube channel, Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke about his training method in detail. During the interview, the actor was purposefully asked about his opinion on the modern tendency of taking breaks in between training.
Stating how he refrained from taking breaks, Arnold Schwarzenegger claimed to engage in a brutal but smart strategy. Sharing his opinion on modern-day training methods and the rest periods in between, the actor disclosed his reasons for avoiding the unforgivable sin during his bodybuilding period.
“I think we had very little rest periods simply because of the super setting and the triple setting and all this. And we pushed each other all the time…I take a barbell and I’m doing my 10 reps and now I give it to you, you’re my training partner, and don’t put it down because that’s the rule.”
“So after you do your 10 reps, I got to take the barbell. I cannot walk away to the water fountain because otherwise I’m gonna act like a loser, and definitely not like a training partner.”
Explaining the reason that pushed him and his mates to engage in continuous training, the 76-year-old spoke about the intense effects it had on muscle formation. Eventually, the actor went on to address other questions regarding bodybuilding and training.
