Sadly, their romance ultimately took a tragic turn when Cobain took his own life just over two years later, on April 5, 1994. Born in 1992, Frances Bean Cobain is the only child of the ’90s rock icons Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love.

Cobain was one of the most iconic musicians of his generation. That’s the reason there are several documentaries on him about his life. According to Courtney Love, even Brad Pitt was considering making a movie on the late singer, but Love didn’t like how Pitt does business.

The Hole singer didn’t want to mention Brad Pitt in Marc Maron’s WTF interview podcast, but she did. First of all, in a now-deleted Instagram post, she alleged that the role of Marla Singer (played by Helena Bonham Carter) — in the 1999 hit movie was hers.

She also mentioned that the role was only hers until she denied Brad Pitt and the director Gus Van Sant to make a movie about her late hubby, Kurt Cobain. Love wrote in a (now deleted) Instagram post (via E! News):

“Brad & Gus Van Sant called me from lunch and tried to blackmail me over my role, for the rights to a film about Kurt. I lost my s–t on them, and by 7pm I was fired from Fight Club.”

She added:

“I understand how much of a game of roulette casting is. I am not here 22 years later bitching about losing a part playing someone’s side piece in a movie.

The Trapped actress noted in her Instagram post following her firing from Fight Club that the By the Sea star continued to seek the rights to a film about Cobain (who was married to Love from 1992 until he died in 1994).

Courtney Love revealed that she had turned down a pitch from Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment for a Kurt Cobain biopic as recently as 2020. She later explained on a (now deleted) Instagram post why she decided to speak with him again. She wrote (via E! News):

“Kurt’s film from Brad after all these years? It’s because I’m in recovery.”

Love explained:

“And resentment is like drinking poison and hoping the other person dies. I was over being mad about it. Plus, I heard Pitt was dealing with the same demons. So, we might have both changed our spiritual world views. Not to be.”

The singer expressed her frustration about her “no” that “was not heard” and “ignored” on a Zoom call. She hoped that sharing her story publicly would encourage Brad Pitt to improve his approach and to “do better.” She said she appreciates him “as a movie star” but “not so much” as a biopic producer.

Despite Courtney Love’s allegations, A source close to E! News stated that the role in Fight Club was never offered to her. The source said:

“You cannot be fired for a job you didn’t get.”

According to the source, she auditioned for a part almost twenty-five years ago but was never extended an offer.
