Rumors of their alleged affair began when the two were working on the set of Focus (2015).

Coincidentally, this was also the film in which Margot Robbie told Will Smith off. Since the actress raced against time to make it to the film’s audition, she was shocked to see that her potential co-star was late. This unprofessional behavior on Will Smith’s part did not go down well with Margot Robbie and she was not afraid to tell him that!

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Margot Robbie opened up about how she was backpacking in Croatia when she received the audition for Focus, something she was required to attend immediately in New York. Robbie recalled how she went through hell to reach the audition on time.

“I was backpacking for a week with my brother on an island off Croatia. I end up having the craziest 24 hours of my life. I’m soaking wet because I’d been swimming, I get back to the hostel at 6 a.m., no sleep, turn my phone on, and I’ve got all these messages: ‘They want you to audition for Focus. Your flight leaves tonight.’

“There’s only one catamaran to the mainland and it leaves in 20 minutes, so I’m grabbing my stuff and I race off I get the catamaran, I get a bus to the airport, I get to the airport and wait 6 hours, I fly to France and wait another 6 hours, I fly to New York, and by the time I get to New York, they’ve lost my luggage. My shoes are wet, my denim shorts are damp, I’ve got no makeup, no clothes.”

Despite all the trouble, Robbie managed to make it to the audition on time only to find out that Will Smith was running late. His excuse? Well, he had to come all the way from Queens! Needless to say, Robbie, who defied all odds to be there, was not pleased.

“In the last 50 something hours I had six hours sleep in total and I walk into the audition and it turns out Will was running late. He comes in and says, ‘Sorry I’m late, I was coming from Queens.’ And I look at Will and I was like, ‘Yeah? Well I just came from an island off Croatia and I’m here on time.’”

While dissing Smith could have gone wrong for the Barbie actress, she recalled how it did not affect her audition at all. Robbie stated,

“When they hired me for Focus they said they liked my audition. I was like, ‘So I got the job because I looked like sh*t and called Will Smith a d*ck?’ It worked out well. Acting 101, I guess.”

We can’t really blame her for losing her cool, can we? The woman was soaking wet!

Talking to Collider about working with Smith and the others on Focus, Robbie stated that it was fun rolling with the guys in the film adding that she walked out of the set with a few older brothers who look out for her.

“I had a great time. I seem to keep doing films that are like a boy’s club, and I’m the only girl. But it was fun rolling with these guys. They’ve been really great. It’s like I inherited a bunch of older brothers. They all took me under their wing and were really wonderful.”

On what it was like doing a s*xy role in Focus, Robbie jokingly called it awful before stating that it was actually great and that Smith made it much easier.

“It was awful. It’s a tough job but at the end of the day, someone’s got to do it. No. It was great. Will made it very, very easy.”

Smith and Robbie’s chemistry wasn’t enough for the critics as Focus has a score of 56% on Rotten Tomatoes. At the box office, the film made a total of $158 million on a budget of $50.1 – 65 million.
