The Reeves-starring film, which was based on the complex DC character, made over $200 million at the box office globally in 2005 when it debuted 19 years ago (Box Office Mojo). Since then, fans have been clamoring for a sequel because it opened up so much potential.

In the sequel, Reeves will once again play the role of John Constantine, a paranormal exorcist and demonologist who, although near death in the first film, endures to preserve his soul by preventing demonic forces from invading Earth. This confirms that fans are clamoring to see Reeves don the trench coat and fedora once again.

Now that the reports on the sequel have been made public, Keanu Reeves is unsure if he will stick with the movie to the very end. During a series of press interviews for John Wick: Chapter 4, the actor opened up to CinemaBlend about his candid opinions regarding Constantine 2. He stated that he “[didn’t] know” yet whether the film would be produced under the new DC administration.

Collider also discussed the possibility of a sequel with Francis Lawrence, the director of Constantine, who described it as something that everyone has “loved” since the first flick opened in theaters:

It’s something that we’ve been talking about since we made ‘Constantine’ because we all loved it. So we’ve been talking about it, talking about it, talking about it. All the DC [properties], because Vertigo is part of DC, that sort of like the control of those properties got complicated with Warner Bros. with DC…

Ultimately, though, Lawrence clarified that the most crucial part of writing the sequel is actually acquiring “some sort of control” over this character.

The combination of Reeves’ performance and the dark, supernatural world of John Constantine is a recipe for success, and fans can’t wait to see where the story takes them next.
