Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, best known for playing Katniss Everdeen in the The Hunger Games franchise, may not be a Hollywood scream-queen, but she’s had her fair share of encounters with ghostly entities. In fact, she may even be sensitive the super natural realm. Lawrence appeared on The Rewatchables Podcast with host Bill Simmons to discuss the Farrelly brothers 1994 comedy classic Dumb and Dumber, starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. During that podcast the conversation turned to ghosts, and it turns out that Jennifer Lawrence had lots to say on the matter.

It turns out that much of Dumb and Dumber was filmed inside the iconic Stanley Hotel. That hotel is known for being haunted. In fact, it’s the same hotel that Stephen King based The Shining on. It was this piece of trivia that shifted the discussion away from the silly humor of Jim Carrey to the horrors of Stephen King.

Jennifer Lawrence’s Ghostly Encounters

The actress went on to detail several spooky experiences she had in New Orleans around the time she was filming Causeway, a dramatic film produced by A24. The actress recalls renting houses in the infamously haunted city and hearing footsteps down a vacant hallway and doors slamming shut on their own. According to Lawrence, the rest of the production team assumed she was tired and didn’t quite believe she was experiencing paranormal activity. That is until she invited one of her producing partners to stay the night. That night, according to Lawrence, the door to their bedroom slammed shut by itself and the skeptic quickly became a believer.

This led to host Bill Simmons suggesting that maybe she “had the vibe” that attracts ghosts. This was a suggestion that Jennifer Lawrence quickly exclaimed, “I hate that. I don’t want the vibe.” As Simmons persisted he asked her if she sometimes gets weird feelings when she goes into houses. And her answer may have bolstered the idea of her ghostly “vibe.”

“Sometimes when I drive by houses I feel like I can feel exactly what it feels like to live there.”

Recognizing the absurdity of her own statements, Lawrence laughed and joked that her publicist was dying before conntinuing.

“I can sense death on people, for sure.”

The actress never clarified what exactly she meant by “I can sense death on people.” However, Simmons took the declarations as confirmation that Lawrence is sensitive to the super natural realm. Or, in his words, she has the vibe that ghosts are attracted to. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, it’s a creepy story to hear told so sincerely. Perhaps this is a sign that we should get Lawrence in a proper horror film some time soon.
