Rayan Reynolds has been making headlines for the next Deadpool movie and all the controversy surrounding it, he was recently seen in Spirited (2022) whose song, Good Afternoon is being nominated for the Oscars. Songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul wrote the song among other songs in the movie. The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell, Sunita Mani, and Patrick Page. It is a musical comedy based on Charles Dickens’s novel, the movie has received pleasant views and has surprised many viewers with how good it is.
Ryan Reynolds is prepared to humiliate himself on stage at the Oscars
The Deadpool star has promised that if the song Good Afternoon wins at the Oscars, the least he can do is make a fool of himself on stage. The songwriters could not be more thrilled, as they would take an Oscar home and see Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell perform on stage. Justin Paul, one of the songwriters told Vanity that “Seeing them on stage would be so much fun,”
It definitely would be a lot of fun to see the actors dance to the song at the 95th Academy Awards. However is the actor ready to perform? Here is what Reynolds has to say
“I’m not thinking about that, Look, if this song is nominated for an Academy Award, I would say that the least I can do is show up on that stage and embarrass myself.”
The actor is more than willing to entertain all of us with his performance. The song is infused with a ton of fun, vulgar meaning, the tune is a musical-theater-Esque number competing against powerful performances by Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and Rihanna.
Ryan Reynolds played a huge part in the creation of Good Afternoon
The film Spirited is a modern-day take on a classic Christmas movie, A Christmas Carol, It starts with Ferrell’s Ghost of Christmas Present feeling disillusioned with his ghostly job. Alongside him is the Ghost of Christmas Past (Sunita Mani) and the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come (Loren Woods, voiced by Tracy Morgan). Reynolds plays Scrooge, who spends his time on social media spinning lies.
Ryan Reynolds can be credited for the song ‘Good Afternoon’ as it was his idea to do a song like it, he explains how he got inspired by the original novel by Dickens and had to have this song,
“Scrooge would say ‘good afternoon,’ and we investigated it and this idea that it was an insult,” Reynolds said, he elaborated on how this was probably the only thing he asked the creators of this film and the songwriter, everyone got together and worked on various parts.
“It was the only time I ever asked Benj and Justin to do anything for this movie. I said, ‘Can you please have one song that is about ‘good afternoon’ where we just get to go off and drop in a heavily camouflaged f-bomb all over the place?‘”
The lyrics were originally 55 pages and then different parts were picked, “It was everybody’s different ideas, everybody working on different parts of it and putting it together.” explained Pasek. Ryan Reynolds feels that the song is connected to people because it says something everyone is thinking about. The vulgar words and the cynical world-view are very relevant, not only because the song delves into adult life and uses comedy to expose the harsh reality of the said adult life.
“It’s this idea that people can get away with something or have the agency to say ‘Go fuck yourself,’ but wrapped up in a much different package out in the open.”
Pasek is excited to see Reynolds perform, he elaborates saying “If the song is lucky enough to be considered by folks, I would love nothing more than to watch those guys perform on stage at the Oscars, I think it would be just the funniest thing in the world to watch them give a ‘good afternoon’ to all of Hollywood.” All of us would love to watch that, however the competition is tough this year. Ryan Reynolds is preparing for Deadpool 3, and has a lot of controversy surrounding him and the movie.
