The Notebook Wasn’t That Perfect Behind The Scenes

Regrettably, we must disrupt the perception of the 21st century’s most beloved cinematic love story, as the behind-the-scenes reality of Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams’ relationship during the creation of this rain-drenched scene was far from harmonious. In fact, tensions ran so high that Gosling, as disclosed by director Nick Cassavetes in 2014, made a bizarre request.

Despite their remarkable on-screen chemistry in The Notebook, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams faced significant challenges behind the scenes. Director Nick Cassavetes revealed that their working relationship was fraught with tension, leading to moments where Gosling wanted McAdams removed from the movie altogether.

“Ryan came to me, and there are 150 people standing in this big scene, and he says, ‘Nick, come here.’ And he’s doing a scene with Rachel, and he says, ‘Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off-camera with me?’ I said, ‘What?’ He said, ‘I can’t. I can’t do it with her. I’m just not getting anything from this,'” Cassavetes said. “The rest of the film wasn’t smooth sailing, but it was smoother sailing.”
