Jared Leto Couldn’t Bear To Watch His Performance In Dallas Buyers Club

I learned a lot. The first thing I did was to meet with transgender people and I listened. They shared their stories with me. And I listened some more. It was fascinating to dive into these lives and to share and hear about some of their challenges and fight for acceptance.”

His efforts bore fruit as he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Dallas Buyers Club. That being said, Leto wasn’t exactly open to watching his performance. While speaking to The New York Times (via Us Weekly), Jared Leto revealed that he didn’t watch his performance in Dallas Buyers Club due to the ridiculous expectations he had for his role.

I will [watch it] at some point, I’m sure. But too soon! It can never live up to the expectations I would have of it now because it was such a beautiful experience and the response that it got was really wonderful.”

Obviously, this simply goes to show just how serious Jared Leto was about his role in Dallas Buyers Club. Needless to say, Jared Leto managed to win quite a few people over with his incredible performance.

Jared Leto Was A True Method Actor For Dallas Buyers Club

It has already been established that Jared Leto was an absolute madman when it came to preparing for his role as a transgender in Dallas Buyers Club, which is why it comes as no surprise that he was doing a lot of method acting.

While speaking to The New York Times (via Us Weekly), Jared Leto revealed that even after the shooting was done, he took the part home with him. After all, his transformation for the rule was not really on a superficial level.

The makeup was just one thing. I had dropped about 30 pounds. But there are other things, too. You couldn’t really take the costume off,” Leto said. “I waxed my body from head to toe. Then there is all the inside stuff. I lived in that character throughout the course of shooting. It was really important to do that. It isn’t the kind of thing where the director yells, ‘Action,’ and then all the minutia, the accoutrements, the mannerisms, the behavior, all of that all comes back. I couldn’t afford to let go for fear that I would lose that.”

Jared Leto might be more infamous now thanks to his meme-worthy role in Morbius, but that doesn’t take anything away from his mind-blowing performance in Dallas Buyers Club. We’ll have to see what’s next in store for Leto.
