While the Fire Nation burns, the Earth Kingdom crumbles, and the Water Tribes struggle to survive, the once-peaceful Air Nomads seem all but extinguished. But hope arrives in the form of Aang, a young boy who discovers he’s the last Airbender and the Avatar, the only one who can bridge the divides and restore balance.

While the latest Netflix series might be subject to mixed reviews, fans certainly have nothing to complain about the cast. Their chemistry has helped bring the epic story into live-action.

The dynamic of Aang and Prince Zoku is one of the main ones in Avatar: The Last Airbender. It was played by the young actors Gordon Cormier and Dallas Liu in the latest series, respectively. Throughout the first season, Aang and Zoku had been in a neck-and-neck competition. However, the same is not the case with the actors in real life.

During a Netflix press conference held on February 21 in Taguig, Cormier shed some light on his relationship with the fellow actor.

“They (the fellow cast) are the best. We had so much fun,” Cormier said. “Ian and I have the relationship Aang and Sokka have, and Kiawentiio and I have the same friendship as Aang and Katara. It’s like we’re all like our characters in the series. But I can’t say it’s like Aang and Zuko with Dallas and me. Dallas is fun, and there’s no rivalry at all.”

While The Last Airbender is now getting live-action adaptations, many fans still consider the Nickelodean animated series to be the only version. The story has been brought to life first in 2010 and now in 2024. However, both the times the live-action have not been able to match fans’ expectations.

The fans have, however, something to cherish! Paramount is working on three new animated films for Avatar. More importantly, these will not be reboots, instead it will continue the story as concluded in the original series. The first of these movies is expected to release in October 2025 and will follow all the major characters in their late 20s to early 30s.

The first season of live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender is streaming on Netflix.
