Kevin Hart is, hands down, one of the funniest, if not the best, stand-up comedians to date and there’s absolutely no doubt about it. Besides performing at public places at the beginning of his career to entertain the general audience, the 44-year-old has also given some remarkable works on the big screen including the Jumanji duology for one to count.

Yet, before becoming as successful as he is today, Hart too faced criticism at the start of his career like every other stand-up comedian, as he revealed how he offered to even strip for men at a male strip club to avoid getting beaten up after his stand-up routine went awry.

Appearing on The Graham Norton Show, Kevin Hart shared his story of performing at a male strip club during the beginning of his career as a stand-up comedian. He said,

“I’ve been through it all. I was hit in the face with a buffalo wing. It was actually a male strip club that they shut down for comedy for the first half. And inside, there were ladies in there. And you know, it was just supposed to be us performing for these women that were roused up. [The] first thing I got on stage when they introduced me was they were like, ‘Pull it out!’ I was like, ‘Hey, hey! That’s not me, I’m not here for that! I’m here to entertain you with these jokes! I know, who’s got kids.’ And then I started shouting virgin and kids material.”

But that wasn’t the best part. The funniest part was when he got hit with a buffalo wing right in the face by a man who he presumed to be a woman.

“I remember one dude from the back, he was like, ‘That’s enough!’ and he just threw a buffalo wing at me. And it landed [on my face], hit me in the cheek [with] a little bit of hot buffalo sauce right there [on my face]. I assumed it was a woman with a deep voice, so I was like, ‘Who threw it? Who threw it?! At the end of the day, I’m a man. I’m a man, don’t disrespect me!’ Then he stood up and he was like, ‘I did it.’ And I contemplated just taking my clothes off right there. It was the only way out of it.”

Hart’s stand-up routine gone wrong might’ve certainly landed him in big trouble, but that wasn’t the only time he faced something like this!

Kevin Hart’s Worst Stand-Up Comedy Reaction

Kevin Hart further went on to share in the same interview how he once performed at a crab festival as well, way before he became a successful millionaire.

“In the beginning of stand-up comedy, you’re not performing in luxury venues. Wherever they feel that they can build the stage and make money is where you goin’. So there was a crab fest. And they were looking for talent. ‘Comedian’ talent. I was like, you know, I’m available.”

But while he agreed to perform at the festival to gain fame among the audience, he had no idea how disappointing his decision would end up for him, judging from the reaction he got that he terms as ‘worse than getting booed’.

“I remember hearing a woman, an older lady, who was like, cracking crabs… this is how you crack crabs [imitates her]. So, she’s like cracking crabs and I tell her a joke and the joke doesn’t work. I remember this lady just going, ‘Oh, no.’ I mean, I would much rather be booed. The disappointment that came from her voice – it was as if I made a mistake with my choice of life.”

Nonetheless, the hardships that he went through because of his utter commitment to his job have built him into a remarkably incredible personality and one of the best stand-up comedians of all time who will not back down from setting the stage on fire regardless of the criticism he gets.
