Harrison Ford loves playing Indiana Jones. After all, the 80-year-old actor is still presenting a new Indy film at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny has racked up quite a bit of chatter online after its Cannes premiere. While quite a lot of it is for the wrong reasons, some do seem alright.

One of the things the press and audience is congratulating the film for is getting Harrison Ford back and de-aging him perfectly on-screen. Many have also admired the stamina of the veteran Hollywood actor. So people are curious if he will return for more films in the franchise. Turns out he isn’t immediately interested.

There is no Indiana Jones franchise without Harrison Ford. That’s the popular and agreed-upon view. But is the lead actor willing to step into the character for another film in the $1.9 billion franchise? Not so soon. Ford has clarified that he needs a break from the globe-trotting adventures.

During a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival (as reported by People magazine), where the cast presented Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Ford explained that he wanted to rest now. He said:

“Is it not evident? I need to sit down and rest a little bit. I love to work, and I love this character, and I love what it brought into my life, and that’s all I can say… I wanted to round up the story.”

“Everything has come together to support me in my old age, and I love the work. So I just want to work and I want to tell stories, good stories, and I have been so lucky in my life to have that opportunity.”

The actor also addressed the de-aging CGI used to make him look younger on-screen. He refuted reports of it looking botched and instead commended the team for putting out a realistic image.

At the Cannes Film Festival, Harrison Ford clarified, once and for all, that he was satisfied with the de-aging CGI used on him for the fifth film in the franchise, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. He said:

“I know that that is my face. It’s not a kind of Photoshop magic, that’s what I looked like 35 years ago. … I think it was used very skillfully, so I’m very happy with it. But I don’t look back and say, ‘I wish I was that guy again,’ because I don’t. I’m happy to be, you know what? I’m real happy with age — I love being older. It was great to be young, but s— fire, I could be dead, and I’m still working.”

His co-star, Mads Mikkelsen, stepped in to share how much stamina the Han Solo actor still has at his age. He explained that others way younger than Ford tended to give up after a long day of work. But not Ford. Mikkelsen stated:

“We had a night shoot on this film. We wrapped up at 5 o’clock in the morning. We were all completely wasted, and wanted to go to bed. Harrison picks up his bicycle and goes riding for 50 kilometers. Okay? So that was just a, ‘Come on, Harrison. What are we supposed to do?’ So I think there’s a couple more Indies in there.”

Whether or not Ford returns to star in another Indiana Jones film will be heavily dependent on the current one’s box office numbers. As for now, the critics’ score for the film has been abysmal. On Rotten Tomatoes, it is at 50% after 28 reviews. It now remains to be seen how much the film ultimately rakes in.
