Armie Hammer opens up about his suicide attempt after S*xual misconduct allegations

The actor who got his first big break in The Social Network lost his agency WME and many high-profile acting jobs as a result of the accusations. Armie Hammer also went through substance abuse, which led to his separation from his wife Elizabeth Chambers in July 2020. And amid the adverse circumstances, the actor revealed that he tried to commit suicide but couldn’t proceed after thinking about his children. In the interview with Air Mail, he stated,

“I just walked out into the ocean and swam out as far as I could and hoped that either I drowned, or was hit by a boat, or eaten by a shark. Then I realized that my kids were still on shore, and that I couldn’t do that to my kids.”

The actor also revealed his experience with a youth pastor, who molested him at an age of 13, which led to his childhood trauma and shaped his strong s*xual desires. But after serving time in rehab, Hammer sees himself as a much-improved person.

Armie Hammer takes accountability for his past mistakes

Although Armie Hammer has denied the s*xual misconduct accusations, the actor has taken full responsibility for his other wrongdoings. The actor admitted that he was selfish and had used people in the past for his good on numerous occasions in his life.

The Social Network actor hasn’t shied away to take full accountability for his past mistakes and shared that his time in rehab offered him a moment of introspection and an opportunity to reflect on his past deeds. The rehab period has helped the actor overcome his problem with substance abuse and shaped him into a better and healthier person. The actor stated,

I’m now a healthier, happier, more balanced person. I’m able to be there for my kids in a way I never was. I’m truly grateful for my life and my recovery and everything. I would not go back and undo everything that’s happened to me.

However, after the accusations, the actor’s career has been on a downward spiral as he lost prominent roles in many movies, including, Shotgun Wedding, GaslitThe Offer, and Next Goal Wins. While the producer of Call me by your name, Howard Rosenman has deemed the allegations against Hammer as nonsensical and shared that he deserves a second chance.
