When Henry Cavill announced his heartbreaking departure from The Witcher, the whole wide world exploded like a searing volcano, refusing to accept such vile news as their beloved Geralt of Rivia being replaced by someone else. But fans weren’t the only ones who felt the palpable agony of Cavill’s exit from the Netflix show after such a beautiful run for two seasons, even his co-stars, especially Freya Allan, were a hot mess of tears and denial in the wake of his egress.

Freya Allen Shed Tears at the News of Henry Cavill’s Exit

It’s been four years since the first season of the fantasy/adventures series aired on Netflix, four years since Henry Cavill’s lethal, magical monster hunter left viewers enchanted, and almost one whole year since he stepped down from the cherished role, passing the mantle to Liam Hemsworth instead.

The news of his replacement came as a staggering shock to fans everywhere, the prospect of any other actor taking his place acting as a catalyst for vehement backlash. But perhaps it was all even more gut-wrenching for Cavill’s co-stars to stomach; his fellow actors who had been a part of The Witcher family for so long were rendered utterly distressed, especially Freya Allan, who depicts Ciri, Geralt’s surrogate daughter in the Netflix adaptation.

With The Witcher 3 on the horizon, the crew has been doing press rounds for its promotion, and in one recent interview, Allan, 21, revealed how she burst into tears when she first discovered that the Enola Holmes star was leaving the show, which was just a day before the rest of the world found out.

“We found out quite a few months after wrapping… we found out the day before the world found out. It was a shock Everyone was in shock at the same time. I cried when I found out; I just didn’t expect it. I feel very connected to him through our characters. It was sad.”

Even Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Joey Batey (Jaskier) were just as baffled at the prospect of never seeing Cavill slay evil monsters in the series again.

How is the Crew Getting Along With the New Geralt of Rivia?

The cast members seem to be a bit more accepting of Hemsworth stepping into the shoes of the titular character than the embittered audience. And though they are yet to meet The Hunger Games Star in person yet, they’ve certainly done their “best to welcome him” aboard, as per Batey.

“And you know, we’ve emailed and exchanged book quotes, that sort of thing. And by all accounts, it sounds like he’s just in training. He’s taking on the role incredibly seriously.”

While Cavill’s departure continues to remain a mystery since he never officially revealed the reason behind the same, people are under the strong suspicion that it had something to do about his creative differences with the producers who refused to respect the source material. And seeing as the Man of Steel star is a comic book connoisseur and a stickler for the original content, it makes sense why that could’ve led to clashes between him and the show developers.

Meanwhile, Cavill’s run as Geralt will come to an end after season 3 at which point, Hemsworth will take over as the lead from season 4 onwards.

The Witcher can be streamed on Netflix.
